Better trips, or more trips??

Definitely "better" trips than more often "budget" ones. When I was a kid we went to WDW every three years for a week and we stayed at the Polynesian and did 2-3 TS meals a day. We went camping and had cheap vacations in between Disney, but there was nothing that can compare to the anticipation of knowing Disney was coming up and what a luxurious vacation it was going to be. We never went out to eat as a kid (not even fast food) so the memories from those trips are so special to me and my brother! We felt so spoiled. I had never stayed some place as nice as the Polynesian and I remember being so blown away by the underwater music in the pool.

Now that I'm older (31) and can afford to go as often as my husband and I would like, I still would rather wait and build up the anticipation and have a "once in a lifetime" type of trip every 2-3 years.

We're a mixture here...

I prefer longer. It's a hassle to get DH to take off work and he hates flying, and it's a long drive for us, so we are never going to be a more than once in a year family. (The 2 times in 2010 in my signature, once was a solo trip which now that we have kids, ain't gonna happen again...) Plus, there are SOOO many other places I want to visit, theres never a guarantee I'll make it back.

DH wants to be "better". His first trip was POFQ, and the next year we were at AK. He couldn't figure out why we stayed at POFQ the previous year when there are such better places. Of course, now we usually bring the camper so it's a moot point. Although our return in 2014 is probably going to be to WL.

Would you rather have more expensive trips in which your accommodations are better and you stay for longer, or would you rather have several budget trips with less days and more budget restrictions?

Trying to decide whether to take a trip in 2014 and 2015 that are longer and more extravagant vs. taking three or more shorter budget (read: penny pinching) trips in 2013-2015.

What is YOUR opinion?

I would rather be comfortable than squeeze pennies on vacation. Plus, limited vacation time for us :( Plus long distance. So short vacation for us in a place with king bed (necessity). Our luxury is choosing to do so on-site where we can get a king bed with sufficient conditions for a large family (read: 2 bedroom). Much nicer that AKL had 3 bathrooms for 2 bedrooms, more like real life :). I hate camping, and anything less feels like camping. The last thing I want to do is to need a vacation after I get home from vacation.

But everyone needs to decide what's most important to them :).

"Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion." Ecclesiastes 5:18

My answer is slightly different and is... Whichever is the least stressful/most relaxing. Ideally I would like to save up and have long and extravagant!! But, the definition of "extravagant" will vary over time and situations.

For example : Now that we have a baby, staying on the monorail is top priority because of the stroller and proximity to MK. If I had to cut a day or two to stay there (right now) I THINK I would.

I know. Kind of a wishy washy answer!!!!

Depends on what you mean by budget. I'm a sale shopper, penny pincher at home but I like to relax and enjoy on vacation. At Disney, I prefer Wilderness Lodge but I've stayed at the values on big group trips in order to make it work for everyone. That's pretty much the extent of my penny pinching at Disney. I will not lug snacks to the parks, cook or eat in the room, camp, etc...

Our vacation this year is Hawaii. the budget part is using air miles for $5 flights and the rental car. The splurge- a hotel right on the beach with an ocean view because as DH said, we're going to Hawaii for the ocean so I want to see it. The budget side of me is teaching Summer school starting tomorrow to cover the hotel splurge.

To each his own as far as how many corners you are willing to cut.
