Better to get a 1BR vs 2 Studios at VWL in Sept?

My family is going to go to DisneyWorld from 9/20 to 9/24. My mom (82), DW, DS15 and DS2. Though I am not a DVC member, I was thinking the best thing would be to rent enough points (136) to get two adjacent VWL studios. One would be for me, DW and DS2. As DS2 goes to sleep earlier than the rest of us, we would move to my mom and DS15's until our bedtime. My mom would sleep on the bed and DS15 would sleep on the sofa. However, I am concerned that we won't be able to get two adjacent or even remotely close studios. My second thought was to get a VWL 1BR. My wife, DS2 and I would have the master and we would close the door to the bedroom when DS2 is going to sleep. I am not sure what my mom and DS15 will sleep on.

Any suggestions on which approach is better? Are two VWL studios available for that time period?

Could you maybe put DS2 in the pack n play that seems to be in every unit?

If you get a 1BR you have a sofa bed in the living room so don't think that will work too well for you unless you bring an air bed for your son. You are right about the fact that you may not have studios that are close together so that could be a big issue.

I'm planning a mother/daughter trip next June....myself, dd 14 and dd 31. The 'girls' want to be in their own room, so I guess I'll be doing two studios, rather than the one bedroom. If you book them at the same time, they should be able to 'tie' them together so that you are in the same general area..at least I would think so anyway.

I'd go with the two studios...just better sleeping arrangements. Even though we find the sleeper sofas to be fairly comfortable, I wouldn't want to put an 82 year old on it.

VWL is a small resort, so even at opposite ends you wouldn't be all that far apart. And if you request close together you should have no problem getting something workable for you.

September is a slow month of the year so hopefully you won't have problems booking. Most DVC members book 7 to 11 months ahead but September is a good month for short planning such as this.

I am a DVC member and LOVE Wilderness, however it is hard to book. A lot of people try to reserve as soon as possible because it does get booked up soon. If you can't get in at Wilderness, another great alternative is Old Key West. A lot of times it is cheaper (it's been around longer) but I find that this is a nice place to stay and in the middle of all of Disney. Good luck though, make your reservations ASAP.

I would suggest you do a 2 bedroom. I know it sounds extravagant, but it will be so nice to have a kitchen and laundry available in your unit. A 2 bedroom at VWL is a 1 bedroom with an ATTACHED studio for the second bedroom. That means you will have a king bed in the master, a pac-N-play for the 2 year old, and a queen bed and full size hide-a-bed in the 2nd bedroom for grandma and big sister. Then you will also have teh kitchen/living room area to enjoy as a common area when the baby is sleeping and the rest of you don't want to go to bed just yet.

An earlier suggestion of OKW has merit as well. First of all, the points are less per stay there, and the rooms/units are larger. A stay in a 2 bedroom for your dates at OKW would be 152 points, while VWL 2 bedroom for those dates would be 180 points. The real problem is that you are staying over two weekend nights, and they are double the week nights. If you were to change your dates to a Sunday to Thursday, those stays would only be 88 and 120 points respectively.

Actually, there are dedicated 2 BR villas that aren't 1 BR with attached studio at VWL, I stayed in one last week.
