you have been!
the only things that seem to help are asking for a handicapped room or health reasons - these are the first room request that the room controller does - so they generally get the rooms that they want.
of course if you use bell services - they can change your room and have done so for me.
my brother has a melt ball and plastic join and can't do steps very well - can't do them at all if someone else is on the steps - he needs alot of room. so I always ask for him first floor non-handicapped - to my knowledge he has always gotten it.
mother is 81 - when I travel with her - first floor because she has enough trouble walking in the first place - I always get her a wheelchair - I will even take a handicapped room to stay on the first floor when I travel with her.
It is only when I travel alone (some of my best trips) with other relatives, or friends - that I have a problem with the room. Generally I am alone when I get a lousy room. I am healthly can walk all over - so I don't say health reasons. Although if I ever got a smoking room - I am very allergic to smoke and I can get a doctor letter saying so if necessary. but so far at WDW
DVC resorts I have only gotten the non-smoking.
Now the only time we (me and some friends) stayed at HH - the front desk kept trying to put us in a smoking room - I think I had to say at least 5 times - non-smoking I am allergic to smoke - I will get asthma if you put me in a smoking room - before she finally understood that it was not a choice. this was the only visit to HH - because of the way HH is setup - nothing on the first floor - my brother nor my mother would be that happy there. It is hard work for them to go up and down steps.
