Better rain gear then a poncho

Mainly to pack for Disney. Anything light weight at Dick's or other that work? I am just tired of a poncho if it is long days of rain, or multiple days as Sept forecast seems to be.

I like the rain jackets that fold into their own pouch. Mine came from Disney Shopping (pink with Tink), but my DH's & children's were ordered from LandsEnd.

We were there in August 2008 during hurricane Faye. The hurricane stalled over Florida and it rained constantly for 4 or 5 days. My husband and son refused to wear ponchos. I bought Disney windbreakers for everyone. They have hoods and are long enough to cover most of your legs. Kept us somewhat dry and much more stylish than ponchos. We still wear them on rainy days at home.

Check out Frog Toggs which you can get at Bass Pro. They are inexpensive and very durable and you can get jackets and pants, I think hats also.

I was there for Faye! That storm would not leave!

I can't even imagine going during a hurricaine, yikes. Just a few days to find something. eBay has some of those mentioned. I will look in the porting shops too. I just can't face wet plastic everyday.

I don't like plastic ponchos, but I have a nylon poncho that I use all the time. It breathes better than plastic, so it's more comfortable. I use it alone for light to moderate rain, and if the rain is really heavy (as we know it can be sometimes) I supplement with a compact umbrella. I can also run the nylon poncho through the washing machine. I just get waterproofing spray and give the hood and shoulder area a light spray when it comes out of the dryer and it's good for another year. Check out travel supply companies online, like Magellans, to see different types of travel rain gear.

Personally, I think a rain jacket is just too warm to wear in Florida most of the year. I have one that I can wear in the winter, a nylon unlined one, but if the temps are much above 50 I just start sweating too much. I prefer the air flow I get with the poncho.

a raincoat?:confused3:rotfl2::thumbsup2 Go to walmart or target and buy one for each of you.....We all have a raincoat in our house, a practical, hooded raincoat for when it rains. Which it does frequently....:thumbsup2 I personally like the waterproof nylon types...i.e. goretex or similar as it feels like cloth, but is waterproof.... you could order some from LAnds end with rush shipping, those work great! I personally don't understand why people pack ponchos,etc.....

We have frog toggs which we purchased at Academy. They are a good rain coat and pants which are light weight.

Baseball or brimmed caps to keep rain out of eyes.

We also no longer bring our ponchos. We just use our regular rain coats.

I believe Eddie Bauer has them too.

Another for Frog Toggs. Walmart carries certain sets in the camping section. $20 for pants/jacket.
They are lightweight, breathable!!!!! and easy to pack/carry.
That would be my choice!

What about umbrellas? You really don't want to wear jackets, rain pants or ponchos when the temperatures are in the 90's. Carry a backpack with the umbrellas and a plastic bag for them while inside and when the rain lets up.

I found dd a jacket at Dicks that she will have for school too. It covers the hip pretty good, breathable. It was marked down to $49.99 but she will have it forever.

I found a nylon poncho that is waterproof. They both fold into pocket size. We always take our Mickey umbrella but if its gusting or torrential I won't open it.
I never would have thought about a windbreaker or nylon poncho. I am thinking about taking my Columbia water proof if it calls for storms all next week too.

Lots of quarters to wash and dry wet shorts. I did find totes hats too, khaki and black.
I knew DISers would have great ideas. :thumbsup2
I wish I had time to order online, but I think the color she picked out is nice.
