Hi All! I'll be getting an AP mainly for the room discounts but am finding out I can use it for discounts on food and merchandise. What is usually better disocunt-wise??? The AP or a AAA membership?? I'll have both. Not sure which to use. :confused3

AP generally has a much better discount. You can check AP rates by entering APH in the code box.

and you can check AAA on the AAA website ;) Damo...do you have to have the highest priced pass to get the discounts? Website is under maintenance right now so I can't check. I believe AAA gets you a 10% discount on food and merchandise.

No, we have the middle level AP. I believe it's the Preferred and around $260ish?

You get the 10% dining (most locations) and shopping discount and the Hotel discounts.
I believe the Premier pass will get you a bit bigger discount? But it's quite a bit more too.

i renewed my preferred ap and it cost $170.xx a few months back.

i have received 25% discounts using the AAA discount for onsite rooms in the past.

it really depends on the date you book.

last few years i have used the promo codes when booking.
stay 7 nights or more and receive 30% room discount.

right now i have an ap rooms rate booked and 9 days w/the promo rate.

there was only a 7 dollar difference on the room rate for a week night.

for the long stay, which includes weekends, it was cheaper for me to stay with the promo rate instead of the ap rate.

there is no difference w/aaa or preferred ap discount on food and merch.
both cards are acceptable.

years back the preferred offered a 15% discount on F & M, but it dropped down to 10%

macraven is this a typo? I renewed my preferred AP back in April and I swear it was only $170.00, not $270.00 for the renewal.

i'm correcting it as it is a typo.
it is to be a 1 not a 2.

well when i screw up, i do it big time....:rotfl:

thanx for having my back homie...!!

::yes::

No problem! I knew the prices had gone up recently, but if the AP renewals had gone up $100.00 just since I renewed mine in April, I was going to have a hissy fit.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: No more APs for me, at that price.:rotfl:

Just back from a great trip and used both our APs and my AAA for discounts. 10% pretty much everywhere, except for a few of the "food carts". I try to display the AAA card in the visible front side of my lanyard, and several times the sales clerk asked ME if I'd like to use it! :thumbsup2

Is there somewhere I can see the discounts available with AAA? We are going the end of this month and was not aware of this.

If you mean for the hotels you have to either call or check your AAA website. If discounts are available they will show up if they are sold out at the AAA rate you will not see them. I have found that the SMSM rate is cheaper if I am staying 4 days or longer. What are your dates?

if you go to the AAA website, you will see all the places where you can use the card for general shopping outside of the theme parks.
a lot of online shopping besides stores.
you will find basic theme park discounts amounts though.

agree with pixeegrl.
this year for many of the dates, the promo is beating the AAA room discount rate when you stay multiple days onsite.

the problem i have with calling some AAA agencies, is they are not as knowledgable for the theme parks help.

i find it most helpful to call UO and have them give you the figures for obtaining the best rates for the room.

I meant for merch and food. We are staying for 5 nights so the promo beat what AAA could give me. Thanks I'll keep my AAA card with me while out.

Last trip, we got an APH discount at HRH for $150 (2006). This trip, I checked APH practically everyday, but when I called, I received a $215 AAA rate which was excellent compared to $279 regular price and the APH that popped up was $259 later in the summer. Maybe I missed the better rates, but at one point I had HRH for $215 and RPH for $190 with AAA for August. Now, they are both sold out for our dates. Don't wait. I didn't even have an AP pass for this trip, but I would have bought one. ;)

To get the AAA discount, do you need to book the reservation through AAA?

I already booked RPH at rack rate but was wondering if I show an AAA card at check in if they would provide a discount at that time. I don't have AAA currently, but if it gets me 10% off the hotel it would more than pay for itself.

Thanks,
Kristen

You can call Loews or Universal or the hotel directly to request the AAA rate and change your reservation at that time if it is available. You only need to show the card at check-in. Do not wait to do it at check-in as rates can change and availability for allotted AAA rooms may be sold out.

Thanks!

When I actually looked at the AAA of the Carolinas website, it did not mention any discount for Lowes hotels. It mentioned discounts for Universal Orlando in general but the fine print didn't mention hotel discounts. When I followed the Universal Orlando link, they did have packages but not hotel offers alone. Maybe it is only certain AAAs that off the discount (?)

No, all three have the AAA discount, when available but you have to call the hotel, Universal, or Loews and request it.

I can find them on my AAA website.I just go into a hotel search. Sometimes they aren't available and won't show up. What are your dates and I can check for you?
