I'm trying to plan a girl only trip with 3 of my friends..and I'm wondering if it will be cheaper doing military discount for room with tickets...or free dining? Anyone ever run the numbers? I'm also wondering ...what is the minimum ticket purchase for free dining..1 day...2 days?? Thanks for any help..we are looking at a 5 night trip..I hope someone can help me figure this out?

You have to price out both options at the resort level that you want in order to figure out which is best for you. 4 adults in 1 room at a deluxe will depend on time of year and which level of room you want (view, club) and the percent discount. 4 adults in 1 room at moderate or value will almost always be cheaper with free dining even if you wouldn't normally need the tickets.

Minimum ticket purchase is 2 day MYW base tickets.

For FD, there's a 2 day minimum. Dining plan costs approx $47 per day per adult. Note that for your calculation, 3rd and 4th adult in the same room will pay $10 extra per person per night.

Not sure how the military discount would work...

Well, a 4 day park hopper at regular price is about $305. So that plus a hotel room at rack rate (plus, as a PP pointed out, $10 per additional adult in the room) is what you would be paying with the "free" dining offer. You need to call and compare that to the military discount rate at the particular resort you are looking at. The rooms available at that rate are limited, as well. If you are booked under the military rate, you can pay to have the dining plan added without having to purchase tickets.

We have usually chosen to use the military discount on the hotel and either pay out of pocket for meals or just add the dining plan. The next time we go (Jan), I think we are just going to use the rate and pay out of pocket for meals.

I might consider doing the free dining thing if I was planning on buying an annual pass anyway and was going to use the ticket toward the annual pass (I don't even know if you can still do that now that they make you buy a two day ticket instead of a one day?)
