Betta Fish - Buying one for a friends daughter. How much to put on giftcard?

Friends daughter is turning 9 in a few weeks and her mom hinted that she'd love a betta fish. I won't be picking it out and instead will give her a giftcard for it and accessories. Would you go with petsmart or petco and how much on the card?

We got my daughter a betta for her 9th birthday last month at petco. The betta she picked out was 14.99 (The most expensive was 19.99 least was 9.99). Then the tank we got was $20 and it came with rocks for the bottom.

I think petsmart or petco are pretty similar so whichever is more convenient or has a better selection. If you call one of those places, they can tell you the rough amount. I'm researching this for DS as well and the gal there told me you also need some chemicals for the water and betta food.
