We've been the designated "pet sitter" for our best friends DD's beta fish while they are in Florida all of next month! The DD is quite fond of the fish, and has had it for more than a year now. I am SO worried that it will die while in our care, as I have NO CLUE how to care for these fish. (According to her parents, they are finicky fish.)

We've HAD goldfish-type fish of our own before, and they did just fine for a LONG time. Are these Beta fish really all that different?

I just want to make sure we don't accidentally kill the thing! ;)

Any and all tips, suggestions, advice appreciated! :)

They are really easy. Feed them and ignore them.:)

Is he in a bowl or a tank with a filter?

They are SO easy to care for--feed it every few days- change the water every other week---

Rule #2 Is this a ZOMBIE beta or a regular beta

My wonderful beta fish, Oscar, died a few weeks ago after 2 years with us :sad1:. I actually really miss my little fish.
To answer your question, they are extremely easy to take care of. I used to clean his bowl & plant and change his tap water (with added water conditioner) once a week. Feeding was about 5 pellets several times a week. That's about it. Don't worry about it, they are as low maintenance as can be!

Make sure you have a cover on the bowl. I lost one because it jumped out when I was at work and by the time I got home he was gone. :sad2:

They really are very easy to care for. I change Jelly's water every other day (with conditioning drops) and sprinkle a few flakes of food a couple times a day. He greets me every time I walk near his bowl. He's pretty cool. We've had him about a year and a half.
