Bet -- When will Disney create a ride to equal Spider Man and Harry Potter?

Anyone who thinks Disney can just rest on their laurels ("old stand alone Disney attraction is just as good as heavily themed major new Universal attraction) is in serious, serious denial. Heck, Spiderman at IOA has been around for 12 years and -- from a "how well different attraction technologies are merged to create a sum that exceeds the components" level (including that incredible simulation at the climax of a 400 foot free fall) Disney still hasn't equaled it.

Some background on that "archiac" 1999 Spiderman technology:

"There are 13 large screens in the attraction, 12 of which use 3D projection. The process utilizes two projectors that have polarizers to interact with each lens of the 3D glasses. By blocking light from one projector with each lens, the 3D effect is achieved.

The illusion of levitating the ride vehicle is achieved by a choreographed combination of several elements: the on-screen visuals with faux-projected windows to the left and right; a large, collapsible building facade; the vehicle's DOF (Degrees of Freedom) motors moving slowly and without stops; and overhead fans blowing air down onto the vehicle. Afterward, two IMAX screens in the following scene allow for the feeling of being whipped high above the city during the final showdown.

The ride vehicles in the attraction cost several million dollars each. Each is mounted to a track-roaming platform that provides the forward motion to move the vehicle through each show scene. The cabin is capable of moving 360 degrees and different angles thanks to the yaw motor and the six DOF motors attaching it to the platform.

Nice info-I agree that it is an incredible ride-you cant recreate that one in your garage, thats for sure.

While i think my kids would love spiderman and HP Rides rides rides will never trump the very 1st time a kid walks down main street and sees the castle. Technology wil always get better, yesterday's hot toy is outdated as soon as it hits the sales floor, but nothing - NOTHING - will ever replace the WDW magic.

This is true only if you're brainwashing your kids.

The answer is never seeing that Disney decided nit to compte with Potter.

So true. This Fantasyland expansion is greatly anticipated by many, and sure I think its cool, but thats it, its cool. I'm not doing flips and jumps in excitement over it. Its not just cause Im a young guy, its cause its more of the same if you ask me, and the rides/shows they're putting in are again, more of the same. I feel that if Disney is going to expand, they need to gamble and make something so different we just wouldn't know what to expect. But that would cost money, which is something unheard of nowadays for them. The only hope I have for a "fun" Disney ride is Star Tours 2, however even with that I'm saddened due to its setting being more "kid friendly" to appeal to the youngest audience who view that clone wars trash on cartoon network.

Back on topic though, if anything....maybe, just MAYBE in 2016 (oh who am I kidding, 2018) we'll see something Marvel nose its way onto property which would be immersive, hopefully.

If I were Disney I would have combated Potter with this

MK: FLE Tomorrow ETic
DHS MI coaster
EC JII 4 with trackers system and New country
DAK BK MI hybrid

Do all this and you are competing with Potter.

Spider Man is very cool, havent been down to IOA since they have construction all the Harry Potter stuff, but I dont really like Harry Potter anyways..lol.

You could sit there and say why cant Disney do this or that, but its probably hard to do everything and make ever type of ride/attraction known to man. They have a whole "world" to take care of where Universal has the two parks. I am sure Disney will come up with something else great ... we have Star Tours II, Fantasyland expansion, new resort, etc. They are going crazy with California Adventure out west, with all the new attractions coming there and the World of Color....WOW! They have put out their own unique attractions and experiences as well.

As far as Soarin', I enjoy it, especially if you are in the middle and up top, thats the best experience for that ride. But I do wish they would have made the Epcot version different from DCA version.

So basically its Honey I Shrunk the Audience on wheels.

I love all rides/attractions and nothing really makes me sick. I was never that impressed with the Spiderman attraction and he is one of my favorite superheros. The 3-D never really looked good. The film looks grainy/blurry (yes I rode it from its beginning.) The story line is all over the place. DH hates it. I like HP land a lot-lots of detail. The FJ ride system is amazing- but again the story line stinks. It is like WTH was going on? Again-made DH sick-just like Spiderman and the Simpsons. He could care less if he ever goes on any of them again. We probably like the Mummy best at Universal/IOA. I would rather do EE, TOT, HM, Pirates, Horizons, Sorin, WOM over SM and FJ any day;) I think MS is a bore too.
