Has anyone stayed at the Bestwestern at downtown disney? Is it nice and do you think the kids would like it or would they like a value resort better. Bestwestern is a lot cheaper to book. Any info appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Depending on the age of the kids, my experience is that the younger kids love the value resorts for their larger than life icons and all the color. In comparrison, the Best Western DTD has none of that. For teenagers that may feel too old for the whimsical character of the value resorts, Best Western, imo offers a good product. A hotel with indoor corridors, full service restaurant (We did not eat here). We had a clean room (All have balconies), the pool area is average. Shuttle service was on time, new buses that are much more comfortable than those of Disney. However, with buses we were one of the last hotels to be picked up and usually couldn't sit alltogether. No big deal. We walked to Downtown Disney a couple of times but it takes about ten minutes. You can usually find good deals at this hotel, and I have always been a fan of the DTD hotels because of their location and great shuttle service.

that strange generally the value resorts are cheaper.

what are you dates?

with the Best Western - no EMH, no DME (okay all the other things too - but these are the big ones for me)

so you must provide your own transportation from the airport.

I stayed there, and it was pretty nice. Your average hotel really. It was great being that close to DTD.

I haven't stayed yet, but do have it booked for May...

We stayed there last month for one night before checking into our Disney resort the next day. The hotel looks very nice (lobby and rooms) after the recent renovation and the location is convenient - but our experience was not a good one. Maybe we were just unlucky.

The first room (3rd or 4th floor) we were given had a noise problem. We noticed it as soon as we walked in. The fan in the heating/cooling unit was making a loud noise and we knew we would never be able to sleep so we just turned around and went back to the front desk and told them about this. The girl was very nice and changed us to another room right away (15th floor).

This room's appearance was very nice, there was no fan noise, and we had a great view from the balcony. BUT, two more problems appeared which we didn't discover until later that night. We left right away to go to DTD and didn't return to the room until around midnight. Our room was freezing and nothing we did could stop the cold air from coming out the vent. Even when we turned it to OFF, cold air still blew out. We were tired after traveling and then going to DTD for several hours, so we decided we'd just get a hot shower and go to bed.

That wasn't to be.

Our shower didn't work.

At all.

You could turn the handle until your arm fell off and no water would come out. Well, as I said we were bone tired so we didn't want to call down and maybe have a maintenance person sent up at that hour. We also didn't want to have to move to yet another room. So, we just went to bed and slept the best we could. The room was still freezing when we got up the next morning so we dressed VERY quickly, got our things together, and went to check out. We made sure to let them know about the problems we had and they wrote them down, said they were sorry, and that was it. If we hadn't been in a hurry to get to our resort, I would have asked to see a manager and discuss the problems. I just didn't want to take the time and maybe wind up in a bad mood if the manager decided to be difficult. I was ready to get to Disney and put this unpleasant experience behind us.

While we were checking out, there was a man in another line complaining about how cold his room was. He said they were all freezing in there and they could not get any heat. He was getting nowhere with the front desk person he was dealing with but it let me know we weren't the only ones having a problem at that time with the heat. Like I said earlier, maybe we were just unlucky and it's a nice place to stay but we won't be staying there again.
