Best/worst things to happen on your birthday?

Best being at Disney World for 2 weeks
Worst being in the hospital with a broken hip and getting a hip replacement

Best - Being in Disney World on my birthday and eating at Sci-Fi. My kids teased me because when I was very young the cheesy movies terrified me. It brings back such great memories.

Worst - Having to put down a dog I was fostering because it attacked and killed my kitten.

Best was 45 years ago when I turned 16 and my parents had bought us a pool that summer so I got to have a Sweet 16 pool party. That was also the last actual birthday “party” I had.
Worse I guess would be every birthday since I turned 20. I was married by then and my husband has never done anything special for me on my birthday other then giving me a card. The only birthday cake he has ever gotten for me was my 50th which was 11 years ago. It’s not that I really want a cake, it’s the principle.

For three straight years in a row, a family member died on my birthday, my uncle (godfather), then grandmother, then aunt (grandmother’s sister). Yes it became a running joke.

Almost every birthday I seem to have things happen to us. Like for one birthday we were celebrating my birthday party when the lights went out and we had nothing else to do so I just went to bed and another birthday our internet didn't work and we had no telephone service either so my family had to watch movies to end my birthday. But the most weirdest thing that happened on my birthday was that my mother was planning to take me shopping and we were a few miles away from the mall when our car broke down and we had to tow the car back home and I really wanted to shop but the car was in the shop for a day so we got the car fixed and went shopping days later. But the best thing that happened on my birthday this year was getting a free Pepsi and Buffalo wings with my pizza

Best, I dunno, I don't really have anything that stands out.

Worst... a positive Covid test, a couple years ago.

Worst: Not really that bad but a few years ago I had a bday where no one in my family (parents, DH, 5 kids) remembered my bday all day. Didn’t do much as get a “happy bday” from any of them

Best: Ever since that bday my DH plans a short getaway to a cabin in the mountains every year on my bday lol. It’s always so beautiful with the leaves changing since my bday is in fall

Best: When I turned 25, my friends threw a surprise birthday party for me and created a Murder Mystery around ME! It was so much fun.

Worst: As it turns out, my birthday is on tax day and I married an accountant.....yup, what are the odds? Anyway, one year, the tax deadline was on the 18th due to holidays/weekends, etc.....and DH completely forgot my birthday, thinking it was on Tuesday, the 18th because it is always the last day of tax season! Not a fun day for me but definitely not for him once I let him know at the end of the day and I was very upset.

Best - I usually travel for my birthday. No trip really sticks out as best.

Worst - having someone bail on accompanying me on a trip a couple years ago. On the bright side I did get to do a few things they wouldn’t have wanted to/been able to do.

Best was when my husband threw me a surprise party for my 40th at a nearby lasertag place. He coordinated it with family and friends, they got some of my favorite foods, including the last slices of pumpkin Pecan cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory, which is no small thing seeing as my birthday is early January. Up until then I had never had a surprise party.

Worse was when I was 10 and had bilateral pneumonia. No one actually realized how sick I was until a few days after my birthday.

A few years ago, the JH dance was on the night of my birthday. My students all knew (thanks to my blabbingly wonderful coworker), so I leaned into it that evening while chaperoning. My job to start the evening was opening the (locked) door for the kids as they arrived and wave to the parents. For every kid, I opened the door with a huge "WELCOME TO MY PARTY!" :goodvibes The kids laughed and went with it too... it was a really fun night!

I don't remember anything bad that happened on my birthday. Maybe I've been lucky. :) There was the year DH was stationed overseas, but even then I grabbed the kids and yelled "Let's celebrate!" and we were off to the ballpark. :)

Best - Last year at Aulani
Worst - I have 2 bad birthday memories. the first one, I was supposed to fly to DC to visit my daughter. Early morning flight was delayed 3x throughout the day then finally cancelled due to thunderstorms. The stress gave me this awful migrane and I was sick all weekend. 2nd was also last year at Aulani, I cut my baby toe in the Aulani infinity pool and the bleeding would not stop, Aulani medical finally called an ambulance but I stubbornly refused to go to the emergency room. They finally slowed the bleeding, told me to elevate as much as I can and I got to finish my birthday day without any more drama.

I went to my grandma's funeral on my 35th birthday.

On another birthday a few years later, Pluto proposed to me at Disneyland. But being the dog he is, he never called after that.

Worst: woke up sick on my 16th birthday. Long story short, it ended up being mono and I was sick for a long time.

Best: Being at Aulani for my 40th birthday.

Worst- not on the actual day but the day before my 29th Birthday my Mom passed away unexpectedly

Best- this past July my Husband (with a lot of help from his Mom and sister) threw me a surprise 50th birthday party. Many of my out of town family came (we are near Rochester, NY and most are in Philly and Harrisburg area). Best was my 2 nieces who I haven't seen in a few years due to distance and life were able to come (the one's hubby is Navy)

I've had several good birthdays, last year was in Prague, this year was seeing Taylor Swift. so I've been lucky. I can't recall any bad birthdays

The holidays though between T'giving and Xmas have all been darkened with sudden family deaths in recent years. So I love my birthday, but have come to dread the holidays.
