Researching the replacement of our horrendous tiled flooring in our kitchen. I love the way wood floor kitchens look & starting to research.

What is the best kind of wood flooring for a kitchen? Or best kind of laminate type wood?

Thanks!

I used vinyl plank flooring by armstrong.. Its 100% waterproof and looks like real wood flooring... Also the make ceramic tile that looks like wood planks..

Dont use laminate wood flooring in the kitchen.. If water sits on it for awhile it will ruin the floor..

We put in laminate in our kitchen 2 years ago, no problems yet. I was surprised that it not only considered an acceptable flooring for a kitchen, but actually is highly recommended by designers.

We have oak in one house and cherry in the other. I like the cherry better, but that's a color that might not work for some people. I was just visiting a cousin who had red oak (mine is more yellow?), and that was gorgeous. If I was working from scratch, I'd probably do red oak.

My parents had their kitchen and entry way redone and went with a wood look tile. It is really nice. It has the look of wood and is easy to clean. They had a very slick tile in these areas before. They have wood flooring in their dining area and living room and it is hard to tell the difference between the two. This is close to the color they chose. It does look nice in the kitchen.

The people who owned my house before me put in Pergo, I hate it. We will be replacing it with porcelain tile that looks like weathered wood.

Sorry it's so big.

We have just regular hardwood flooring in our kitchen. No problem with clean up. It holds up well to kids and dogs.

This is the kitchen of a the house we are buying and moving into next week. The floor is tile, but looks like wood or wood laminate. The entire bottom floor of the house has this tile including the downstairs bathroom. You get the look of wood, but not the worries of it getting damaged from water (think refrigerator waterline, dishwasher, and toilet) that could leak.

My mom put in cork flooring in her kitchen. It has held up very well and I like the way it feels when you are standing on it.
Yeah, cork can be nice and it's massively more comfortable than tile (quieter, warmer, softer). It's got the same wear and tear and upkeep issues as wood though - no use of harsh chemicals, can be water-damaged, scratched or gouged, etc.

:thumbsup2 I actually really like the white appliances...I am so over trying to keep stainless looking clean and nice.

I have regular natural oak flooring with a strong finish on it. It's held up very well. Initially we had builder's grade flooring and it really fell apart easily.

I would do the same type of flooring again in a heartbeat (I've had kids, dogs, etc) but I probably would do a diffferent wood than oak (when I put mine it there weren't the choices that are out there now).

I also really like the tiles that look like wood. Not sure how they feel/hold up.

Gorgeous!!

We put Pergo in a few years ago in the kitchen and I love it. We haven't had any issues with it and it still looks brand new. I LOVE the look of the tile that looks like wood, though. Maybe in my next house. :)

Thank you!

Hmm...I'm wondering if we should go with the wood look tile. We live in New England, have two toddlers, & we don't have a mudroom. So kitchen floor gets trampled on quite a bit with snow or wet shoes from rain.

I think you should at least do some research on it--pros and cons. It's really beautiful.

My DH is a project manager for a huge tile installer in Detroit. The wood look tile it's hugely popular right now, and it's very pretty...looking so much like real wood. My tastes usually run toward the classic style, whereas he sees so many high end beautiful jobs finished, he likes trendy more than I do ( like the small glass mosaic backsplashes that are everywhere I despise that he likes...hurts my eyes and brain to look at all that chaos). Anyway, we both like the wood look tile. I'd put it in a kitchen without hesitation, but wouldn't put wood in because it's so fragile. I just had a friend put Brazilian cherry hardwood in his kitchen, they ran the dishwasher on the way to work in the am, when they came home, the dishwasher had leaked everywhere, causing $5k in damage. No chance of that with tile...get the mop and wipe it up!

Water and wood or fake wood don't mix. You can get real nice ceramic tile that looks like wood. 6x36" pieces, looks real nice just put it down in my kitchen. Fairly cheap at Home Depot.
