my hubby and I will both be in the park. Is there any kind of app that works on wifi like a phone call without using roaming?

What's app is a good one. I use it when I am international and it works well. It was even free at one point but may cost 99 cents now.

If you have all iPhones you can use iMessage with just WiFi. Otherwise What's App.

Blackberry Messenger is what we always use and it works well. We have iPhones and various Android phones in our group.

We have used what's app or Facebook messenger. But we both have iPhones so imessenger is what we use the most

If you want to have some fun with it, you could always use snap chat!

My wife and I use Telegram, it doesnt make phone calls. But you can send voice messages, pictures, videos etc.

If we need to actually call each other while on wifi we use Google Hangouts

We just pick up an add on from Koodo for unlimited US texting for when we are down, not bad cost.

My family (6 adults) used Whatsapp this past July when we went to Beaches. Just set up a chat group and we were off. I don't find the ringtones particularly loud, so in a park it may not be great.

Last October when we were at WDW my wife and I used iMessage since it was just the two of us. Since it used the iPhone ringtone library I didn't have much issues hearing it - I use the "24" ring for my wife's text messages.

I use both viber (free) and whatsapp. Both are pretty good. I use viber for calling as well and it works well.

I have the 'text me' app. You can get a ton of free credits that you can use for making calls. I have something like 500 and got them all for free. Aside from that we also use IMessage.

If you don't use IMessage at home (I don't because it somehow messes with my regular text messages) be sure and turn it on BEFORE you leave home. For some unknown reason I can't log in after I have left Canada.

We like whatsapp - but we also have different devices in our family.

If you want a local phone number and be able to text home, etc - my DD uses Freetone. Its a wifi-based app that allows calls, texts, etc with a real local Canadian phone number. LOVE it. But when we're at a place like WDW, we tend to use Whatsapp or something similar.

I like viber because it has a video chat option which my kids love to use to chat with the grandparents!
