FYI - I called PVI for the AAA discount and they said that they now give that when you present your card upon check-in rather than applying it to your reservation beforehand. They didn't say how much it was - does anyone know what the AAA discount they have received at PVI has traditionally been?

I think it was 10%, they wouldn’t tell you what the discount is? They also give a military discount, my friend got that. Not sure what other discounts they have but I don’t think they have an ap one.

No promises, but I believe the AAA will be about 5-10%... That being said, their military discounts used to be pretty impressive (like 20%), and when we called last month to book a room, it was $13 per night off a $200 room, so about 6-7% or so. Very saddened by this, as PVI is definitely our favorite, and they used to take GREAT care of us--they would stack our military discount on top of their returning guest discount, taking about $40-50/night off the rack rate!
Now, we stay next door at Tropicana. No free hot breakfast, but, after military discounts (similar discounts for AAA, CAA, and a few other groups) we generally pay $130/night in the winter, and $150 in summer ($152 this June, I believe).
Why is PPI a Good Neighbor and PVI not? At least it doesn't show up when you search on the DL site.
At any rate, I'm at PPI for my trip and it'll be fine for a couple of nights. I'm not super picky. And being gluten-free I tend to avoid breakfast anyway...either bring my own Luna bars or I can stock up the Starbucks card and get coffee and either egg bites or their gluten-free breakfast sandwich.
The Good Neighbor designation is always a fun subject to cover! A GN property is one that has agreed to hold back a few of their rooms for Disney to rent online. Hotel pays Disney some $$$, Hotel holds back a few rooms for booking through the Disney website, and they get a GN designation, and the ability to sell DLR tickets in their lobby, hang Disney signage in their parking lot, and appear like they have some amazing endorsement from Disney.
Here's the thing: If you've got the money, they have the designation for you. It's not based on closeness. Or cleanliness. Or property attractiveness. Or staff attentiveness. It's based on cold, hard cash. I scratch your back, you scratch mine. Really, it's just a great marketing strategy that looks like much more than it really is.
Park Vue, by very virtue of being across the street, gets them a lot of new, and repeat, overnight guests. So would BW Park Place Inn, Tropicana, and Desert Inn and Suites, even if they never paid for the GN....
