Best Websites for Dorm Bedding and Foot Locker

Can anyone please share their experiences? I'm looking for that notorious XL Twin bedding and a good footlocker that can be securely locked.

if you know what school they will attend give them a call and they can fill you in on local stores to them that know what the dorm bedding requirements are and carry them or can order them (most are national chains so you can arrange to purchase or order localy if they provide you the item numbers).

walmart and target both sell locking foot lockers (if not in store right now, on-line).

I do not know anyone with a locking footlocker on a college campus. My DD requested a laptop lock on day 3 of being in the dorms, because her roommate did not like to lock the door. And, DD had a small lockbox to keep important papers in.

Unless they would "need" something that big to keep something specific in - I wouldn't waste my money on that.

XL-long sheets can usually be purchased year-round at JCPenneys, Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. And - they will also work on a traditional-length twin mattress.

It also depends on whether you are looking for a boy or girl. For most guys almost anything goes. For my daughters it was more of a production. They had to match or at least coordinate with their roommates. After 4 different rooms between them during their college years we shopped pbTeen, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Anthropologie & Neiman Marcus. As far as college age design we found that Dena Home Design has the prettiest, younger looking styles right now. You can find it at Bed, Bath & Beyond and Neiman Marcus. The styles may not be in the stores but you can order them online.

Vera Bradley sells comforters in XL twin and the quality is quite good. Bed Bath and many of the standard retailers sell the XL bedding now as well. From DD's experience the pricing and quality of these retailers is much better than the sources the schools point the kids to. Her friends at school and friends on other campuses that used the school designated vendors all discussed how dissatisfied they have been with the quality.

We picked up a safe from Costco.com with locking cable that DD keeps chained to her bedframe for items she wishes to keep secured. It will even fit her laptop, although she also does have the locking system for that to secure it to her desk.

I got the slim footlocker from DormTrunks.com, along with the anchoring cable lock for my DD when she started college this past August.

It is smaller (and much lighter) than the traditional foot locker, but it's big enough to store her laptop and any other papers/things that she didn't want to leave out over short breaks away from school.

This past Thanksgiving break she went skiing and didn't need her laptop with her, and although she has a laptop cable lock, she locked it in the trunk for the week while she was gone.

I'd like to emphasize the computer lock, especially if s/he has a laptop. Laptops are constantly stolen from libraries, and having a computer lock with you will give you peace of mind.

Bedding came from JC Penny and the footlocker came from Bed Bath & Beyond. The footlocker was a great investment, sure, its not a safe by any means but it was a great way for DS to lock up his wallet, phone, iPod etc. when he was out and about the dorm or on campus and out of sight, out of the minds of those with sticky fingers. It's not fail safe, strictly a deterent.

DS's Univ required the kids have laptop locks

And I'm not biased at all- my DH is one of their regional College Business Managers. He works with colleges to coordinate BB&B's presence at move-in weekends, model dorm rooms, and mini-shops in college bookstores. BB&B has everything a student would need to furnish their dorm room.

Twin XL bedding is pretty much at every store that sells bedding (Kohls, Target, etc.) in the late summer as the kids are getting ready for college.

I bought almost all her bedding at Kohls for Black Friday...can't beat the prices! Comforter is on hold until she figures out she is rooming with multiples or in a mod.

if you have a Container Store in your area, they will have a college night at the end of July where everything you buy is 25 or 30% off. You and/or your student does have to register for it and you do have to bring the pass they mail to you but it is an amazing deal! I think when you go to their website, you can prob search for College night? and fill it out. We bought our footlocker there and our daughter uses it a lot! Very handy, she keeps her camera in there, her wallet, her laptop and other important things or papers, and she does have a lock on it. They will pull it out to use as a makeshift table when needed or an extra place to sit. It slides under her bed with no issue.

Also on the bedding, at her university, not ALL beds were XL twin, so I would def hold off on the sheets at least for that. Comforter no big deal, buy that when you find a great price. We also bought her a 4 inch memory foam mattress to go on top (the mattress looked old) and we got that at Costco, came with cover too. There will be SOOOO many deals during the summer...keep an eye out.

Also at Container Store, we bought a refrigerator cart, best item ever!!! Her fridge sits on top of it and on top of the fridge is her little microwave and within the cart are 3 pull out baskets. She keeps her plates, cups, silverware in one and the other two hold are of her snacks. Everyone kept asking where we got it...Everyone..lol

What about a full or queen sized comforter for a twin XL bed? I'm thinking it might be nice to have it longer on the sizes so it covered all the stuff under the bed when the bed is raised.
