How would you sell vintage Gorham sterling silver (2 candle sticks and a candleabra that goes with it) that were purchased at Macys in 1964? Is it best to sell to a jeweler who buys sterling silver?? I found a thread about selling gold, but didn't see anything about silver. TIA!

Silver costs way less than gold so I wouldn't expect much if the place planned to melt it down. You maybe able to find an auction house near you that may pay you outright for it or put it in an auction. We did this with an antique dining room set that was passed to use through family that we really didn't like or have room for. It sold at auction for $650. Now I have a dining room set that I really don't like but it was DH's gradmothers so there is now way to get ride of it. I have a set of stering silver silverware that is from the 40's it is in to original chest with the jewlers card listing how much individual piece cost. It really cool but we never use ot. Once we downsize I plan on use an auction for to go.

I think that silver isn't so valuable to melt down, but depending your pattern it may have significant per piece value.

There are a couple of places that come to mind...

Replacements Inc (google it)
and in Atlanta, there is a store that specializes in sterling silver resale...

How do you find an auction house? Is there something to look for to know they are reputable?

Thanks! I have bought from Replacements for a Lenox pattern, but had no idea they bought too. I will look into it.
