We are staying at ASMovies for the first two nights of our next vacation. We will be heading to MGM on our first morning and are looking for the best/quickest way to get there. I would appreciate any info.

Thanks!!!

Only way to get there directly is to take the disney bus. Fastest way is to take a cab.

If you are driving, Exit the Allstar Resort area and go straight on Buena Vista until you see the MGM main entrance on your right. About a 10 min drive.

If not driving, take the Disney Transport to MGM. It may take a few mins longer but you won't need to pay parking fees. Your hotel staff will have current schedule info.

Since you are staying on site, you wouldn't be paying aprking fees anyway.

The regular busses come about every 20 minutes starting an hour before the park opens.

Oh, that's good to know, so anyone staying a Disney resort doesn't pay parking fees at the parks?

That's right, any Disney resort Guest who has a car gets a parking pass with the resort name to put into your windshield. This not only gets you through the gates of your resort but gets you free parking at the 4 theme parks.

One BWV owner to another, I'd take a fast Disney bus over driving any day. The bus will drop you right at the gate, and the All Stars buses are frequent. Plus, if you drive, you'll stil have a quarter mile walk or a tram ahead of you. STay off the roads, take the bus; it's just easier and faster. Plus if you get tired of MGM, you could always take the boat up to the Boardwalk area or over to Epcot, then just grab the All Star Movies bus from there, without being wedded to the car and all.

Another thought is, that since you'll be going "home" to BWV later in the vacation, why not put off MGM until you are at BWV? Then it's just a quick boatride or a walk. Maybe do AK or MK from ASMo.

We will not have a car, so it will have to be bus or cab. I think I am now leaning toward bus. I just need to make sure DH and DSs are up bright and early!

Pumpkin Boy - I would normally wait until we check into the BW, but DH and DS(6) REALLY want to do Star Wars Weekend at MGM and we don't check in there until Saturday.

Thanks for all your great advice!!!

Have you ever ridden on those boats? LOL

I'm always running late for meeting up with some friends for dinner at Epcot, and I will always run and take the boat to get across the lagoon. I swear, It'd be faster to swim. :)

That's actually why I've never done watercraft at Disney. I'm a leadfoot (although I always obey the speed limits, much to the chagrin of whoever is behind me), and the boats are just too slow for me. :)

I rarely, rarely take the water launches between the Studios and Epcot. I can always walk faster! Before hubby got his scooter we used them all the time, but gosh they were slow. Now he merrily rides along and I hoof it!!!

I always wonder if the transmission is really in gear, or if it's in neutral, and the water current is really the only thing moving the boat. :)

The boats aren't "that" bad Tyler :-)

It's all the resort stops! If they had an express between the STudios and Epcot, I might actually use one on occasion.

I agree...those Friendship boats are sooooo slow!

However, the ferry on Seven Seas moves at a very nice clip. And if you catch the little launches right, they beat the monorail to the Polynesian as does the ferry. :boat: We've had races. :moped:

But we find it much faster to drive from BCV to DST than take those boats!

Well, it may very well be faster to walk, but DS (7) loves riding any kind of boat whenever he can. He just likes the boat. They don't go very fast, true, but we get plenty of walking in anyway whenever we're in WDW, so the boat is a nice relaxing break from everything else.

Of course, if I really needed the excersize, maybe I should swim it someday and see if I can't beat the boats ;)

So Deanna, you're in for Wookies and robots, eh? Should be fun! But really, any enemy of JarJar Binks is a freind of mine. Ugh, like a semi-aquatic Scooby Doo.

Take the bus!!! For us, that's part of the whole Disney thing. When we are home at BWV we never take the boat. Well, we did once...from BC after dinner with my dad. He was tired and getting dizzy, so we took the boat. He wondered if it ran on the same kind of track the riverboat uses!!!! He said the only good thing about it was that he could sit but sure was glad he wasn't in a hurry!!!! I can beat the boat when I walk to MGM in fact. I have to agree with Tyler...I always want to tell those pilots to 'put it in gear'. Of coure, that's the job my dh wants when we retire and move to Florida. He really wants to have boat duty!!!

The whole point of the Friend Ship launches is not to get where you are going FAST, it's to get where you are going in COMFORT.

Friend Ship launches are air-conditioned and have polarized windows to keep the Florida heat at bay, and give you a comfortable alternative to trudging along those trails in the summer heat. Sure, they're usually slower than walking, but the cool-factor far outweighs the slowness for me.

If I'm in a hurry, I'll walk instead of taking the boat.

The Friendships USED to have ice-cold air conditioning. I loved it, and totally agree with you. However, in recent years, I've noticed they've replaced the central air with roof mounted units. Unless you're standing right under the unit, the boat is uncomfortably warm. :( :(
