Best way to meet a good man?

CLASSMATES.COM

I love keeping up on the class, been out of schoolover 35 years. :scared1:
Where did the time go.:confused3I still feel so young, not an old lady....
Although I do post I am married to my childhood sweetheart, I still get TONS of hits from guys I went to school with,

Now I wonder where were they then? Why didn't they ask me out, walk me to a class, etc, I had a lonely high school years.

I ahd friends, I dated from around where I lived a few times, but gosh over a hundred guys have found my page on classmates. THey keep coming back too, I see the same names all the time, a few visits a week :confused3

But it is free, or low cost, and at least you may be able to open the year book and recall them.
The Craigs list killer scares the begezzies out of me,......

I must really be out of touch because since when is a size 14 considered fat....geez, I'm really hopeless then.... lol

Well, I am NOT a sloppy dresser and my hair and makeup are fine. I am overweight, but then so are most of the men I see out and about. Maybe I need to tell them to work on their appearance, you think? It's such a double standard that a man can be overweight, but a woman needs to be slim and trim.

I do need to lose weight, but I would not want to lose weight to get a man. That would be a shallow man, and I already had one of those, thank you!

So, I have gotten replies from both men I have emailed. One is from match.com and one is from craigslist. I am going to try to get my 3 days worth out of match and then cancel. I only saw a few men who interested me and also sounded open to a woman with extra pounds and a child.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I've tried eharmony, plenty of fish, match, and just about all other sites. I'm an elementary teacher, so I won't be meeting guys at work. I'm 45 and NOT a Barbie. I think I'm just doomed to singledom for the rest of my life.

I guess the problem is that I am not outgoing, so even if someone might be interested, they wouldn't know I was, you know? I just signed up on match.com and I guess I will see how that goes. Even there, most of the men seem to only want average or smaller women to reply. I listed myself as a few extra pounds, which I think describes me(I am a size 14)

I don't really have time for extra activities during the week. I teach and then babysit a 3 year old until 6:15 to make ends meet. Changing churches is not an option. I am sure there are people at church who know single men, but how do I say "Can you set me up with a good man?" without sounding weird.:confused3

I did reply to one guy on Craigslist, is that terrible? I would never post there, but this guy sounded really nice, like someone I would like to meet. I got my babysitting job on Craigslist and it has been a blessing for sure.

My DH and I have been trying for 4 years to set up a gal from church with a friend of his from high school. Our DD used to go to the parish school as did her DD and we know her from school and CYO sports. The guy is a friend of DH's from high school and college. They are both divorced with one child each.

Over the years they have met various times at church events, he belongs to a different parish, but attends some of the social events at our church. We would make comments here and there to him but he never took the bait. Even though he complained about being single, I guess he wasn't ready to date.

The past Lent he came to our parish Fish Fry and made contact with her again. They have been dating since March and it seems like they are getting serious.

Don't discount your friends at church. They may know some decent eligible men but if they don't know you are interested in dating, they may not say anything. My DH and I are more upfront and outgoing than most people. While we weren't pushy about this, we tried to make the connection as often as we could without being obnoxious.

Let people know your are interesting in finding a mate. You don't have to be pitiful about it, just say something like "it would be nice to find someone to share the rest of my life with". If you say something about finding a man, they may not think you want a serious relationship. I wouldn't be too interested in running a dating service but I am willing to help two nice people potentially find a partner.

...for the "budget" angle in this thread...

Oops, I thought I posted this on the community board. If someone is able to move it, I don't mind.

However, maybe the man I find will help me balance my budget better, LOL.

A few suggestions about match.com:
Try to stick it out for a few months. Its not that expensive and new people sign up every week. Also, expand your search area. If you are just looking for men 10 miles from your home, there are less to choose from. Expand the age range you are looking in. There are a lot of very nice slightly older men and a lot of responsible younger men who would make good matches. I also found it helped to look at the profiles of other women in my age range to get some ideas of how to set up my profile, it helps to get a sense of what may sound desperate. From personal experience, a short narrative works better than a long rambling one. If you go into it with the right attitude, internet dating can work!

Just what I was about to say. OP, just be yourself. There are plenty of men who love Plump, like a roast, and thicker than most women. A size 14, you do not come anywhere near that. I hope you find your perfect match.:goodvibes

Sounds crazy, but I took one and I was the only female in the class! The professor asked me out after the class ended. Men who take finance classes are willing to sit still and learn and might have a few spare $$$ to invest. If you don;t meet anyone, you will at least learned how to take care of your own cash.
