wow, never ventured onver to this board beofre.

I have a major weekend coming up at the beginning of november. it involves events on both friday and saturday nights. for the saturday night event I will likely buy something new to wear, but for friday night, I thought I'd wear a black suit I bought about 4 years ago. I tried it on last night. I've gained about 10 lbs. since I bought the suit. it still fits, but the skirt is kind of tight. it would look and feel a lot better if I lost weight.

I really need to lose more than 10 lbs., and for that I need a long-term eating plan. but my immediate concern is the black suit.

any ideas or suggestions?

Give Atkins a try. That plan seems to be the boost many of us need to see results quickly. It is not uncommon to get a 10 lb/month loss on that plan. There are many here who may help you with this plan. Good luck with the black dress!

I have a lot of friends who are actors and often have to lose weight in a hurry. They swear by the "hospital diet" ... I've tried it once and lost 7 pounds, but it will come back. Definitely not a permanent solution, it's really a quick fix for a day.

Check out the different threads here ... WW and Atkins are two of the more popular diets here. I'm doing WW right now... In my first month, I lost 8 lbs just from following their plan. Once I started exercising I noticed that I started losing a lot more.

In the meantime, see if you can start an exercise routine ... try working out for at least 30-45 minutes, three times a week ... drink lots of water and watch your sodium intake! I know I'm personally sensitive to salt and too much can make me retain a couple pounds in water.

Good luck :p

BR - try Atkins induction phase (it's the first 2 weeks of Atkins). I'll bet you'll lose the 10 lbs just by doing that for 2 weeks. Also, the water-drinking thing is a must, and well, of course exercising is important. I just don't see how you could possibly start an exercise program with all you've got going on right now. (I'm sure you know that you should be exercising....!)

I agree about what I've heard about the Atkins induction you tend to lose quickly, though I've never tried it. For me, I knew I wouldn't be able to stick to it, so I went back to WW where I know I find success (lost 50 lbs previously and became a lifetime member before I had DS - now starting back on it for losing what came back during pregnancy). I have lost 8.6 lbs the first month without being as strict as I could have been or exercised as much as I should have. I think two definate helps are the water - flush as much fat out as you can, and keep salt at a minimum. After I've had "bad" weekends, I really kick into those two things for Mon/Tues before I weigh in on Wednesdays and I've been consistantly losing.

Whatever you try, just keep in that strict mindset for this month, and you should be able to get most of it gone, and then regroup to plan out a long term goal and pick a balanced plan that you can live with long term. I have found if I don't do something I know I can live with for a while, I don't stick to it short term either.

Good luck!!!

When I was a kid my dad would say "want to lose 10 pounds of ugly fat?" and I'd say "sure" and he'd say "cut off your head!"

I don't recommend this, and no, I do not have any permanent psychological scars over this. If you knew my dad, you'd understand his humor! :)

I do WW's, which I absolutely love because I can eat anything I ate before, I just can't eat it all at once. I still have my ice cream, I still have Peanut butter etc, I just don't eat as much of it and when my points are gone for the day or week, I stop eating.

I have lost 30 pounds since 6/2/03. I lost 5.6 my first week.

I really think that you must look at what you think you could live with doing for a lifetime. That would be the one to try. We are all different, and we each can live with different things. WW's and Atkins are the two most popular here. Try looking into both of them. They both work! Look at all us "LOOSERS" here!!

Good luck, you can do it!

10 lbs really fast.
Get your Dr to order a colonoscopy. Drink the two bottles of Phosphate of Soda. You will lose plenty.

NO, honestly, you should try Atkins. Most people have lost 10 or more lbs doing Atkins for 2 weeks. I myself lost only 5 for the two weeks but I am still on Atkins and today I hit the 20 lbs mark.
And I am having my colonoscopy next week, I should be getting a 25 lb clippie for that event. Peggie

Atkins WILL give you quick results. BUT it is really meant to be a way of life change --- not a diet. With that said --- I have had very good success this week with the KISS way of Atkins eating.

Good luck with whatever plan you choose.
:D

I agree, Atkins is a great way to lose the weight fast at first, but definitely meant to be a change for life...

My first week on Atkins I lost 13 pounds! :) Good Luck, Briar Rose on whichever plan you choose! :)
