We will be going to DLR July 2016, party of 4, 2 adults, 1 teenager, 1 5yo (autistic). I've gathered that the monorail is not used as in WDW but more as a ride, correct? We will be splitting our stay btw BWPAI and DHL. I've recently had knee replacement surgery but hope to be in shape for this trip with an ECV. How would you go about getting a ride in the front of the monorail. I assume I wouldn't be able to ride with the ECV in the front but would love for my DGS to be able to with the rest of our party. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We have done this several times. We just ask the CM at the gate. There might be other guests before you so they will have you stand aside and wait for the next available monorail.

Easy peasy, who knew! :thanks:

I've always been told it's first come, first serve, and no waiting allowed. People will shove their way over, so look out for strollers.

That's OK, we'll have our own stroller and ECV to proctect us! LOL!:rolleyes1:-)

If it is too hot that day, they will not allow anyone to ride in the front since there is no air conditioning on the Monorail...FYI since you are going in July.

If the park is very busy then there are many times they close the driver's cabin off for passengers.
As far as I know, no strollers are allowed in the driver's cabin. Only one ECV is allowed on the monorail at a time. There is only one section of the Monorail setup to accommodate an EVC. You'll have to back it in, it's not too hard but the space is a little tight.

Go early in the day and ask one of the CM if the driver's cabin is open to passengers. If you are able to walk a little, I recommend all 4 of you ride up front and go the full trip around. There is so much to see on a full trip around. Leave the stroller in stroller parking and leave the EVC where the CM instructs you to once up on the platform. Have your camera ready, we have some nice shots of the grandkids while in the front.

When using the Monorail for going to and from the hotel, take the first one to come alone.
Remember if you're getting on the Monorail in DTD, you'll have to wait your turn since they only have space for one EVC at a time. It might be a long wait.
It's different getting an EVC on in the parks. When the Monorail arrives in Tomorrowland, everyone gets off. Not the case in DTD.

This is a VERY HELPFUL tip, not a fond of too much heat so this is one I will DEFINITELY skip. I'll let my DD know because she is not a big fan of enclosed in heat. LOL! Its bad enough we are forced to go in the summer but I'm not voluntarily making the heat worse than what it is.

You may still be okay in July. We go every late June/early July, and I have no issues with the heat then...usually. I find August and September can be much hotter.

We were riding the Disneyland train around the park on Saturday morning. It was a very hot day for late October - it was already 93 degrees by 2:00 pm!

Anyways, the train conductor made an announcement that if anyone was interested in riding the monorail that day, they should do it soon. He said they would shut it down if it reached 85 degrees. My friend and I were speculating why, and guy behind us (who seemed to know a lot about DL) said that because there's no A/C on the monorail, they shut it down when it reaches 85 degrees - it's just stifling in the monorail cars.

Maybe if I try early morning, like first thing? What time does it usually start in the summer? I was thinking maybe when we check into DHL or the next day? Staying at DHL Sat. to Tues. TIA

This is very useful also, you guys are GREAT! Thanks for the information. I'm definitely going to try early morning and will leave the ECV parked as well as the stroller. Thanks again to you all. :thanks:
