Best way to get adjoining rooms?

A friend and I are going to WDW for 5 nights in April, staying at Pop. We have separate rooms and made our reservations completely independent from each other. What’s our best strategy for trying to get connecting/adjoining/close to each other rooms? I realize there are no guarantees but would like to maximize our chances. Thanks!

Call Disney and tell them you would like it noted you on your reservations that you are traveling together. Then tell them you would like to request adjoining or at least nearby rooms.

In addition to the above, both of you make connecting rooms your one and only request. Do not include room ready early.
In the future, when you book, there is a way to enter a traveling with party during your booking process, in case this comes up again. We've used it twice and once we didn't get connecting when we used it but we did get rooms next door to each other. The other time we did get connecting. Both times we also noted it on the reservations and requested it

Please be aware that hotels differentiate between "adjoining" and "connecting" so that when you make your request you can ask for exactly what it is that you want. Adjoining rooms share a wall (they will be next to each other, but you still need to go out into the hallway to go between rooms). Connecting rooms have a door between the two.

At Disney World "adjoining" means in close proximity. At POP that would mean same building. There are plenty on here that have gotten their rooms on different floors.

OP you want to say "connecting" and hope at the least you are close together.

You are correct. I had forgotten that Disney considers adjoining to be "nearby" but not necessarily next to each other.
