hello, We are thinking about driving so we can have a car while we are at disney . I would rather fly but prices are so high. So what would be the best way to drive there? If we drive I would like to avoid NYC if possible. If we do fly whats a good fare for flying right now I can get rt for 225 out of boston to me that seems high and thougts. thanks.

I am also going from Boston in May and having a hard time finding a good price on airfare, hoping for someone to have a good sale soon.

Have you thought about flying out of Manchester or Providence instead? I'd take a relatively short drive to a nearby city over driving all the way from MA to FL.

If you do drive, it's a bit hard to miss NYC. You might consider taking I-90 as far as Albany and then heading south on I-84 and I-81, but I think it'll add time onto your drive.

We're driving 11 hours to get to Boston to pay that $200 rt fare!! :rotfl2: From our home airport (45 minutes away from where we live) it's $550 rt ..it adds up when you have 5 people...we're saving almost $2K!

Take I90W to I84W to I91S to Cross/Merritt Parkway(Rt.15) Follow signs to Tappen Zee Bridge to Jersey Turnpike then pretty Much I95S to Florida This goes around NYC.
Have done this a couple of times. Not that bad going down due to the excitement. It really %^%^#@ on the way back. Like PP has said keep looking at PVD,Bradley, or MHT along with Logan

Buy yourself a GPS device. We just made the trip from Providence to Pop Century in November. We decided to get a GPS for the trip. Saved us a ton of fights over map reading. We got a Tom Tom. It has road work condition, traffic reports and it can even tell you where Starbucks are located. For an extra price you can get a Fuel Price app. Our Tom Tom offers lifetime map update too. One more piece of advice get a E-Z pass. You can use it on all the Tolls from the New England to Virgina. Some tolls you can drive at high speeds and others post the speed you should be driving.
We were in not particular hurry so we made one over night stop at Rocky Mt. NC for the night and a couple of days in Savannah too. On the way back we made it to just south of Richmond, VA.
Oh yeah we rented a car for the week. We have a lease and I didn't want to tack on 3000 miles. We never would have been able to fit all our luggage in our Jetta. I factored in I would have rented a car in Orlando, we have family there. We may even drive next time if flights are still so high.

How many people are travelling? Thats pretty low... $225 roundtrip. We have driven to Florida 4 times from Boston, its not too bad of a trip but keep in mind gas prices... figure out if you will really be saving that much money. I dont think we ever saved too much... but we would do Disney and then stay with family so it was nice to have the car. Also, I hate to fly.
I think AAA has a gas calculator, and dont forget to figure in tolls, food, and hotel if you plan on stopping.
Also, we were never able to avoid NY but always left at night so it wasnt too bad.
