DH and I are planning DD's 1st Disney Trip. She is 2 and we plan on just sticking with the Magic Kingdom this trip. We received a PIN and were able to get a pretty good deal at the WL at the end of Nov.
Ideally, we would like to go in Jan or Feb. We went ahead and booked for November, not wanting to pass up the deal.
I have read that the rates for Jan/Feb will be realeased in August but the deals and discounts won't be out until October/November. Would you just wait until then to see the deals and change the trip? We might be changing it as little as 2 weeks before our scheduled time. I believe they said we can cancel the reservation 5 days before. Any tips or advice would be appreciated :) Thanks!

**Should I book a room in August when the rates come out for January just to make sure I have a room? And then hope there is a good discount or deal coming out in October/November so I can cancel the November Room. The only downfall would be putting down another deposit, right? Or Can I wait until October/November when the deals come out to first book a room for January/February? Dates are pretty flexible in that it can be over any weekend in Jan or Feb including either one Friday or one Monday.

If you have a room only reservation, then yes you can cancel it up to 5 days before arriving and get all your money back. So you can wait to see what comes out for discounts without fear of losing any money. If you are a AAA member, there will be room discounts available once the 2010 rates are released, so you could get a discount that way.
One thing you may need to think about is transportation to Florida. Not knowing how you are getting there, but if you are flying then changing airline reservations may be harder than changing room reservations.

If you are flexible with your dates and flexible with the resort you want, then you might as well wait. If there is a certain resort that you know you want, then I would book the room as soon as you can. If you book a room only in August and then change it to a package, then yes you will need to make a second deposit and get the original deposit refunded.
