Best way to cut down on walking?

I just received a call from my father and my mom's replacement knee has really been causing her some problems recently. He thinks she may have to rent an ecv this trip to Universal. I called guest services and know we can pick one up just inside the gates. My question is what is the best way to get her from the car to the gates? She can do some walking, but I'd like to keep it to the shortest distance possible. I asked the person I was speaking to if I should drop her off at the guest drop off area and then go park to save her some walking, but she said there wouldn't be any less walking that way. Is that correct? Any ideas? TIA!

You will save a little walking by using the Guest Drop Off area (this area is about half way from the garage to CityWalk) but the closest you can get to the parks from the garage is to use Valet...but that would cost you about $25.00 for the day. It might be worth it though.

There are also places off-site that you can rent an ECV from. Just google ECV's in Orlando and these you can pick up from the rental office,(they may even drop off at your hotel), they fold up pretty small to fit into the trunk of your car and are cheaper than renting from the parks. This way you would be able to put your mum in it from the car directly to the parks and then more importantly when everyone is tired at the end of the day, you will be able to get her right back to the car again.

Just curious, can you rent regular wheelchairs? We usually rent those at Disney for my father in law, and I think he prefers them. Thanks!

I had rented a wheelchair for my wife for our HHN vacation, thay dropped it off at the hotel. Made our time a lot better and no problem with the rides or houses. She could walk but it would be painful to do it all day.
It was $54 for 5 days from Walker mobilty. they do deliver to all hotels.

Disney offers courtesy wheelchairs for use from the Handicapped parking area to the park entrance where you then can switch to a rented ECV. Maybe Universal has something like this as well?

Other than that, we used Apple Scooter rentals on our last trip, they were great.
