I have never cooked whole lobsters before and was wondering what is the best method for large ones. I have only cooked the tails and only in gravy at Christmas.

So tell what to do with a couple of 3 pounders. Can they only be boiled or steamed?

Just toss those babies into boiling water for a few minutes. It's been awhile since I've cooked them so I'm not sure of the exact time it takes. They will turn red immediately when they hit the water.

The other day the supermarket had a sale on lobster for $4.99/lb. I brought a couple home as a surprise for DH and he said "how are you going to cook them?" I said "easily, I just asked the nice man behind the counter if he would steam them!" I think it took about 10 min but they have a professional grade steamer. The lobster was SOOOOOO good that way, too. I think either boiling or steaming is the best way as broiling tends to dry it out a bit.

Here's a link on steaming lobster (also a link for boiling): http://www.cooking-lobster.com/cooking-lobster/steamed-lobster.html

I like eating it, but hate cooking it!:sunny: I've also seen it steamed before, although I've never done it!

I want lobster, it's better than having crabs

My dad has a family lobster license...so we get our fill of them. Steam them.....don't boil them. Boiling washes away alot of the flavor.
