We have decided to add a night on the front end of our trip. Our resort is currently not available. What is the best way to add the additional night? By searching for the entire week of our stay, just searching the one night we need, or by trying to modify in MDE?
We are not arriving until mid October, so I hope something opens up.

EDIT: Well that did not take long! I have been checking about every hour for the last two days and one room popped up available tonight. I got right into MDE and was able to modify the reservation to arrive one day early and it is one continuous reservation. YAY!
Thank you to those who offered advice!

You may have better luck calling to add a night. The algorithms Disney uses to prevent stranded rooms can sometimes be overridden by an agent over the phone. Also keep checking because availability may open up, especially around final payment date.

You can try any of those ways. If you truly want 1 night added to your current reservation, try modifying in MDE. Or search online for a new reservation for the full time period and then cancel the current reservation.

You may need to have 2 reservations -- 1 for the extra night plus your current reservation. You can do this yourself online if there is availability for the 1-night but not the full time period.

Calling is always my last option because it seems to take forever, so I try online myself first. Good luck!

Try all ways repetitively, you will likely be successful this far in advance. Because I fly to Orlando, I book the single night someplace on property, and then check both for the full time or the single night every few days. I typically didn’t call much, but 2-5 times. I’d call once early on, and then more frequently as dates got closer. I’ve had luck online, I think all but once I did it online myself and I’ve added a night probably 7-8 times. When it’s a second reservation, I call to make sure the two stays are linked up so I don’t have to check in and out and move rooms. I’ve always had luck for regular resort room stays.

I'm in the same predicament. I've called twice to try and add a night to the beginning of my package at the end of October. I got quite excited when I saw the exact same room type was available for the night before our package started. But when I called, they couldn't add it to my package. So I have a 1-night room-only reservation and a 3-night package. Since they're the same room type, I really hope we don't have to move rooms!

I can say that we have had 2-3 "multiple" reservations with the same room type and have not had to move rooms yet:) It's never a guarantee, a CM mentioned that it's also easier on them to keep a family in the same room.

Do you know when they let you know if you'll have to move rooms? We have 1 night + 8 nights booked for our upcoming trip and I really don't want to unpack everything just to turn around and move it the next day. I'm assuming they'd let you know at check in?

I would talk with them when we check-in and they told me then.

We arrive July 11th. Do the spots for up to 25% off ever open at this point? We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge, but there were not any 25% (it is really 15% at WL) left. Should I just give up trying? I would save quite a bit!

Same here.

Never give up. I treat it as a sport. People are always cancelling you just have to be there when it happens.

I just booked Gran Destino for July 4th weekend with a discount. Felt insane that it was even available but as others said people cancel all the time and things do open up. Just keep checking.
