For all those that eat vegetarian, what is your MUST meal in WDW? We'd like to try some new places. We'll be heading over to Boma this time. Where else should we go? Tips for veg kids are especially welcome!

Just fyi we eat dairy and eggs, but no fish.

A really good choice in MK is the Amber Waves of Grain at LTT - delicious. It is available on the menu for lunch, which is when I had it. I've also heard that you can substitute it for the meat served at dinner, so I plan to do that in December.

Another great choice in MK, this time counter service, is CHH. The anchors aweigh sandwich and the vegetarian chili are both fantastic!

I can't help with the kids' choices, because my guys are meat eaters, but hopefully someone else will have some suggestions.

Bomas - best Veggie spot on site! Tons of vegetarian options - all well seasoned and yummy. Great flat breads with a selection of hummas, great salads - and then the desert bar.... I typically do NOT like buffets, but this one is special - and VERY good.

Morganne's Mommy - a life long vegetarian.

We have a few favorites (I've copied and pasted some info/details from allearsnet.com):

Counter Service:
Columbia Harbour House in MK has an amazing hummus sandwich and vegetarian chili.
Lighthouse Sandwich - hummus with tomato & broccoli slaw $6.29
Vegetarian Chili - $4.99

LUNCH OR DINNER table service:
Jiko in AKL has a great tofu dish. It is HUGE and DH and I will share it next time. They also have great flatbreads. Some of our favorites:
Lentil "Pastilla" - Lentil filled phyllo pockets with a sweet and sour sauce $7.00
Kalamata Olive Flatbread - with four cheeses, and Laura Chenel's soft goat cheese $8.75
Grains, Peas and Veggies - black garbanzo peas, kamut, wheat berries, quinoa, pearl and black barley with roasted vegetables and seared tandoori tofu $17.50

Wolfgang Puck's Cafe in DTD:
One of our favorite dishes aside from the Margherita pizza is:
Roasted Pumpkin "Mezzaluna" Ravioli - half moon ravioli, brown butter glaze, pine nuts, crispy sage, drizzled with port wine glaze $13.95

BUFFET
Boma at AKL:
Our favorite buffet is at Boma. Here is a link to their extensive menu. The chefs are great and will walk through the buffet with you telling you what is 'safe' for you to eat. They were so nice and the food is amazing! http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_bomadin.htm

Looks like we'll definately have to try CHH. We always have a hard time in MK, and end up eating the veggie burger at Cosmic Rays. Veggie chilli, mmmmn. My boys will definately eat that.

Can't wait to try Boma! Maybe we'll have to head back for Jiko, too.

More?

Boma, Jiko and Wolfgang are great for vegetarians. Spoodles also has some options. Rain Forest has many veggie choices on their menu.

I did not like the veggie chili at Columbia House. I don't like olives and it had loads of them.

Tusker House at AK has a nice veggie sandwich.

I really enjoyed this tofu dish at the sit down restaurant at CBR (don't know name of place). It's been 3 years since I have eaten there and I haven't eaten there since they redid CBR.

I had the best veggie burger of my life at the Rainforest Cafe in Animal Kingdom. I also liiked their pizza.

Liberty Tree Tavern--ugh. Had a tasteless, unspiced veggie dish there (curried rice and veggies, I believe, but didn't taste any curry in it!). Ditto the Marrakesh--very bland couscous and veggies for around 20 bucks--not worth it.

I have eaten at the Rose and Crown Twice--first time there was a wonderful root vegetables dish. The second time there was a veggie and rice or couscous dish, but it was well-spiced.

Notice a pattern here?? The World Showcase seems to be full of rice or coucous with veggies dishes :p

I have a hard time finding decent food at the MK, but Epcot is better. Also check out the kid's meals--I had a perfectly decent serving of mac-and-cheese at one of the restaurants in Epcot and the low price included a coke, applesauce, and a little package of crunchy snack mix.

Have you checked out Main Street Bakery? They have some great fresh veggie sandwiches there, as well.

Wow, the Rose and Crown?! I ate there years ago on my honeymoon because we were unable to get in anyplace else, and we ended up eating an appitizer (which was fine, but at the time it was the ONLY veg item). We'll have to try it. Epcot is another place we have a hard time.

AK we always get veg and fruit from the carts. We ordered pizza at Rainforest at AK once and found ground cow meat on it! Yuck. That, too was our honeymoon. We went to the DTD one last year, and had many more options. It seems there are so many more veg meals to be had in WDW now than 5 or so yrs ago!

More?

Did you purchase or browse through the Vegetarian's Guide to Walt Disney World and the Greater Orlando Area?

I did take that book out of the library before our last trip, and will do so again before this one, but I really wanted personal recomendations from my friends here on the DIS :teeth: since I've gotten so much good info here on other topics!

California Grill always has something going. My wife had a pumpkin lasagne for an entree. She doesn't really like pumpkin, and she's not all that crazy about lasagne, but this was here favorite meal ever! She's still raving about it to all her friends.

Well selected ingredients prepared well.

Some maybes (depending on when we're where):
Wolfgang Puck's because I LOVE pumpkin

These two get my vote too. I loved the Grains, Peas and Veggies and the Kalmata Olive Flatbread (pizza).

I have been making my own version of the flatbread since my Oct trip. I use a single serving pizza crust, mozz cheese, feta cheese and kalmata olives. Stick it in the over for 30 min on 300 and it's wonderful.

I don't think you will be sorry at either of these terrific places!

My favorite meal is an eggplant dish at Mamma Melrose. They have pizza I know the kids would eat and not sure about kids menu

I know buffets are expensive for veg but my family loves them, Hollywood & Vine has some good dishes and they are extremely nice and made me a veggie pasta dish

Garden Grill has a good Veggie meal ,Roasted veggies , polenta etc. but they also have mashed potaotes , and other stuff from regular meals. an all you can eat pass around, also and characters for the kids, also have a mac and cheese meal for the kids
I have heard that Prime Time has a good veggie stuffed pepper that I am trying in 25 DAYS!

Rainforest also has several veggie selections and the food is great! I have them leave meat out of pasta

I second and third the Mezzaluna ravioli at Wolfgangs.

Enjoy

Okay, so it seems like Jiko is a bit more the fancy of the AKL eateries we're thinking of (the other being Boma which we have on our "definate" list), is this true? I have two little boys who will be 4 and 2 when we go, an I really don't want to go anywhere that is considered fancy. We figure Boma will work since it's buffet, which worked well for our family last year (CP, breakfast). We had a great meal at Mama Melrose last time, but the kids had a hard time sitting through the whole meal, and we had to skip dessert :earseek: and I LOVE dessert. Maybe we will try Hollywood and Vine this time?

So this is my rambeling way of saying, "Is Jiko considered "fancy"/ is it a "meal experiance" = takes a long time?" All the Jiko recomendations sound yummy (Kalamata Olive Flat Bread!), but I'm thinking we'll have to put off trying it until the kids are a bit older, or my parents join us like they promise they will someday.

Also, Wolfgang's, where exactly is it? I just can't picture it in my head. They have '"express" service, right? Going to check out that menu right now. They probably don't have the pumpkin past dish there, huh? Where do you sit for the express? Hmmm, I have more figuring to do.

nukeantz, let us know how the stuffed pepper is!

Whoa, so there is a Wolfgang Puck Express, Cafe, AND diningroom? Ummm. It looks like the Cafe has the Mezzeluna Ravioli. Is this a good place for a Quicker lunch or dinner?
