Last time I was at WDW (2009) we would only do rides that had 20 minute or less queue otherwise we'd get a fastpass and come back later.

The only ride we rushed to get a FP for was TSM, otherwise our plans worked really well for us.

Now we have to book a long way in advance is there anyway of knowing which rides need a FP more than others?

From my experience on our trip (We went a month ago)

MK: Anna & Elsa meet and greet - If you don't have one the queue is 5hrs. You need to book these the moment they're released!
Epcot: Soarin
HS: Toy Story Mania
AK: Everest Expedition

Other valuable FP+'s: Peter Pan, Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain, Aerosmith and Test Track.

FP+'s for all of the above were gone by early afternoon. For most other rides there were plenty of slots available on all day.

I think the seven dwarfs mine train is going to fall into that category now as well.:)
