a little background - when i was in the 7th grade (so, 12? 13?) my parents took me to Disney World for the first time. needless to say i loved it. sometime around then, someone, and i can't remember who, had this watch that i thought was the coolest thing ever. it had mickey mouse on the face and his hands told the time. instead of the numbers, it had different flags from different countries. and if that wasn't cool enough, it had a button that when pressed it played "it's a small world." i know, dorky. but i thought it was so cool and i always wanted it.
when dh and i started going to disney together i looked for the watch. we've been there now 5 times together and every time i look at every single watch they sell to try to find the same watch. nothing. can't find it anywhere. it's not that big of a deal, just something that i remember and like. in fact, two years ago we were in one of the watch stores at and asked the CM about it. sure there are tons of mickey watches, but i had that SPECIFIC one in my head. the CM did remember a watch like that but told us they haven't made it since the late 80s/early 90s! darn! oh well.
fast forward to last night. dh said he couldn't wait any longer and gave me my present. he told me to close my eyes. then said, "listen" and all i heard was the sound of "it's a small world" !!!! he found it!!! he found it!!! on ebay! it was a new in box but it didn't work. he took the chance, bid and won, and took it to a watch guy in the city who fixed it! he said they had worn/old watches of what i wanted on ebay that were going for hundreds of dollars. but since this one was "broken" he got it for like $25! the watch guy charged $15. best gift ever. and it cost less than $50
ok so fine, i like valentine's day now. haha.
