Best Use Year For Me

We don’t tend to travel the same month every year but usually only visit within the same few months of the year. We typically like to visit in either October/November or late January to March. I’m assuming my best UY would be October followed by September or an August or even June UY. Does that make the most sense as I would like my UY to be just before my earliest travel dates? Thanks!

We have October and June. October is preferable and what I would recommend for you, however, October is often hard to find as is September. There were fewer of those UY's sold, so do your homework but be wary of passing up your "ideal" contract as you may end up only seeing February's from then on!

September is better, August OK, June should be avoided if you will be going in March. October will be a serious problem if you have any desire to get studios (or 2 bedroom lock-offs) in October or November that may have issues of being able to book at 11-months because they fill fast (unfortunately, there is a continuously growing list of such rooms) and you need to walk a reservation, which walk you would need to start in Sep., which is impossible to do with an Oct use year.

I travel about the same times that you do and I opted for a September Use Year and am happy with it. Good luck!

Thanks for the input all that is what I thought and have noticed might just go September or August to make it easier to add on in the future since I rarely see any October UY.

When I was doing my research, I had narrowed it down to August and September as the most ideal. I ended up finding a nice Poly resale contract with a September UY and grabbed it. I think you’ll be happy with either.

I ended up going with a Sep UY because I found the perfect resale contract when first buying in (and the Aug UY contract we first tried for we lost out on) and our favorite time to travel is Sep-Dec. In hindsight, however, I should have waited to find an Aug UY contract because *there are so many more of them* (it's the 4th most popular UY). Also, we do occasionally travel in late Aug because our wedding anniversary is 8/24 and we still have school-age kids, which makes a Sep UY problematic.

Plan on buying the resort you like the best and won't mind staying if you cannot change to another resort at seven months out. Oct and Nov can be hard to book at seven months out. Especially a studio.

Ugh. Soooo true! That’s my one DVC regret- taking the Feb UY because it was so plentiful and ticked off all my other boxes so nicely!

Hi everyone! :wave2: Like the OP I tend to travel in mid to late January but may also do a May-June trip. Is December a good UY for this kind of travel? After reading it seemed like the ideal was just before amy expected travel to both give you the option of the new UY points but also to provide a good buffer between our last travel dates and the 4 month rollover period.

Do I have this right?

For your scenario December is good. Also consider October and September too. Whatever UY you end up with, it’s the last couple months of it you won’t want to travel much. If you have to cancel you normally will do it 31+ days out and within your first 8 months to still having banking available. Cancelling after the 8 months, you lose that safety net. So for your December UY, October & November travel could get risky if have to cancel at the 31+ out date.

Thank you for the confirmation and additional details, it's greatly appreciated :worship:
