This will be my first solo trip since before I was married. Just a couple days for a little r&r. I'm very comfortable being in WDW solo, it's just doing the TS alone that I'm not too sure about. Any suggestions, best places to go solo? Thanks.

I'm going on my first solo trip in May and TBH I was a little nervous too about TS dining alone, but the way I look at it is I love to eat onsite so I'm going to do it :goodvibes

I've picked restaurants I've eaten at before so feel more comfortable, including Blue Zoo (have seen lots of solo diners in there), Captains Grill and Fultons. I'm thinking about trying a new one too, possibly Flying Fish or Spoodles, not quite sure yet.

I've enjoyed reading some of the solo trip reports, it's given me great ideas for my upcoming trip.

I took my first solo trip in October and eat at all different kinds of restaurants (from Grand Floridan to 3 different character meals) I loved all the restaurants but the one that stood out the most was the California Grill. The service was great and the serving staff was awsome.

If you think you might feel a little self conscious eating alone, Teppan Edo in the Japanese pavilion at Epcot offers family style seating around the hibachi and is a great place to meet new people and have conversations and be entertained by the chef. The food is delicious, but simple.

Other restaurants like Flying Fish at Boardwalk allow you to sit near the open kitchen so you can see the preparation. I'm sure there are others with the open kitchen concept if you like that sort of thing.

Any restaurant where you can sit at a bar should be comfortable for you as a solo, since you'll probably find other solos doing the same. I had great meals at House of Blues and Wolfgang Puck (where I sat in front of a chef and got to chat with him during the meal). I also had great meals sitting at two-tops at Le Chefs de France (a window seat provides great people-watching) and Mama Melrose's, but I would recommend you bring something to do while you wait for your food there (a newspaper, a book, a journal to write in, etc.).

Last time I ate solo there I was fortunate to be seated with a group of off-duty CMs celebrating a coworker's birthday. We shared some great conversations and I picked up some interesting pointers about various attractions.

I'm planning a May 09 solo trip and I decided to base my TS choices on places my family would never eat at but I want to try.

Specifically Boma and Teppan Edo. I may add a 3rd - it all depends on how much money I save up since I'm not doing the dining plan.

When I went with family, I made sure to get ADRs. I'm going solo in Feb, and planning on doing one TS at the least.. I debated California Grill or maybe somewhere else where I could sit at the bar and eat.

How long is the wait to sit at the bar usually?
Which restaurants have a nice bar section? I don't want to be thrown in the corner, haha.

I will second (or third) Teppan Edo. I had a great time on my solo trip in September. I also really like Jiko, I didn't make an ADR and sat in the bar area.

I loved Biergarten solo.

And 50's Prime Time was a lot of fun by myself.

The characters at Liberty Tree where terrific to me when I was
dining solo and even Hoop Dee Do was a lot of fun. I'm a shy
guy but I seemed to be getting a lot of attention at those places.

I dine solo often-both at Disney and elsewhere. I have found WDW to be the one place where they don't treat solo dinners like outcasts. I always get a good table and most of the servers will chat, if they are not too busy. Often, I end up talking with the folks at the next table. If you are self conscious about being alone, take a something to read or a journal to write in. The best restaurants, I have found, for solo dining at WDW are Artist's Point and Jiko. I seem to always end up with a server who wants to have a conversation.

Another one who has found wdw a great place to eat solo. I have done 2 trips solo with the dining plan and 1 trip with family. The next trip is with the dxddp so that will be fun, some of the places I have eaten

Unfortunately, I encountered the other side of dining solo at Teppan Edo. I was next to a teenaged girl who acted like she was in some Disney-H*** being seated next to a middle-aged high school teacher. My attempts to converse, ask her questions, were met with monosyllabic grunts (not unlike my students). And the resturant was too loud for me to converse with anyone else. That's too bad, because after the meal, I learned that her own mother, sitting on the other side, was also a high school teacher. Poor teenaged girl-stuck between two math teachers!
I liked Sci Fi because everyone there is sitting staring at the screen, not unlike eating in front of the TV at home. I've also enjoyed Coral Reef, for watching the fish, and Chefs de France, for watching the people walk by.

i finally got the nerve to sit at my first disney restaurant solo this last trip. after several people here suggesting it, i chose sci fi. it took a lot of pressure and anxiety off with having the screen to look at. i really enjoyed myself there and my server was great.

I'm glad for this thread. I'm going solo on my first on-site trip to Disney. princess:

I booked myself into Rose & Crown, Mama Melrose and Yak & Yeti. Are these places solo friendly? I didn't make any other reservations figuring I'll do Downtown Disney and counter service for the rest of the time.

I thought those 3 were solo-friendly. Seemed to me that I received a bit extra courteous and friendly service at all 3 as a solo guest.
