I am coming up on our 180 day mark for May and need to plan a special birthday dinner for 9 y/o DD. A little background - we are only staying for a long weekend and her b-day is a Saturday night. We are at AKV in a 1 BR concierge level villa. I was toying with 1900 Park Fare, but we are doing the Tusker House breakfast that morning since she loves Donald and Daisy, and I'm thinking 2 buffets in one day might be a bit much. I'm also thinking a big cake the night before we leave might be wasted. Sooooo....maybe we should do the cake and 1900 Park Fare on Friday night, then just plan a nice sit down dinner for the night of her birthday. But where? I also need to make sure that picky 11 y/o DS (who will generally only eat steak or hamburgers) won't go hungry. It's just the 3 of us on this trip. I was actually thinking that Marrakesh might be a fun place to celebrate (she will be 9 going on 19 and I think she might actually enjoy the belly dancing, etc. She is an adventurous eater and actually loves Middle Eastern food and her brother could get a hamburger.)

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. I would even consider using 2 TS credits and paying for the Tusker House breakfast OOP.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Marrakesh would be a fun and different celebration! I would go with your gut and do that! She will love Tusker House breakfast, we really enjoyed it! Lots of good, fresh, yummy food and good interaction with the characters. The earlier the ADR the better as it gets crowded and LOUD quickly!

I think the castle might be nice for her..they would make a fuss over it being her birthday oppose to a buffet.

Mickeys BBQ is really fun. Everyone can dance (or watch other people make fools of themselves!!) and they have a segment where they call up the people who are celebrating a birthday. Your DS can get his burger there too!

OHanas has a special "birthday" to-do too.

Ummm...

Whispering Canyon with all the crazy antics could be fun if you get a good waiter/ess.

OK, those are my suggestions!!

My kids have always enjoyed the experience of a "nice" restaurant and we all love Flying Fish Cafe on the Boardwalk. the food is outstanding and the service is just as good! I bet if you called ahead they would do something nice for her birthday.

I agree that 'Ohana is really fun, that would be a nice option, too.

Really, you can't go wrong! She'll be in Disney on her birthday!!

You have some very unique options/ideas...

If it were my daughter....I would take her to CRT...just because it's my fave dining experience of all I've had....

They have a really good Prime Rib for DS....

The desserts are gorgeous....If she is a "princess" type...I'd say CRT...you tell the waiter it's her bday (he will ask for special celebrations) and the fairy godmother will lead everyone in a Happy Bday song for her....

Have a magical visit!

Mary

I just asked DD 9 if she could go anywhere to eat for her bday where would she go. Her answer Marrakesh or Teppan Edo with desserts in France. She is a very adventurous eater and loves both of these very much.

Of course she still like CRT but when I asked her why not that she says because we go there every trip. It's kind of losing being special to her. My baby is growing up.

We went to CRT this past June for lunch and DD is not really a princess type. She's kind of a tomboy really. She enjoyed lunch with the princesses once but I don't think she'd be that into going back to CRT.

I have very tenatively asked the IPO to book Yak & Yeti for dinner. That way we can spend the whole day at AK. She loves Chinese food, BUT I am a little concerned that 4:45PM will be a bit too early for dinner for us (that is the latest dinner ADR available for Y & & - we generally eat after 7PM.) But on a plus note, we would be done early and I thought we might check out the 9PM La Nouba show.

Thanks all for the good suggestions - I'm really still very hesitant about Y & Y and we will very likely go with another option. I really like the idea of Flying Fish or another Signature restaurant like Cali Grill or Yachtsman. A later Cali Grill ADR might allow us to watch Wishes out on the deck which I know she would love.

My DD is turning 11 on our trip. She is soooo over the Princesses but still wants her b'day dinner in the castle so to CRT we go.

At 9 going on 19 I would so recommend a more "big girl" restaurant - Flying Fish (with carnival games afterwards) or California Grill - great view, plenty of food selections for picky brother, they will make a fuss over her . . . .
