I am moving cross country from Arizona to Florida next month, and renting a truck to get there. I currently have a rental through Budget for a 16' Truck. Picked them because they were the cheapest. Given that I am driving 2100 miles in 3 days I am wondering if maybe going the cheapest is always the best option.

Anyone have any input on the subject?

I am a truck driver and we have a lease with Penske. If you have any problems with the truck they come take care of it. They have locations almost everywhere. My inlaws helped a family member move from Pa. to Az. They used a Penske truck. My opinion is that you rent a Penske truck. Good luck with your move.

That's what I was thinking. I currently work at a hotel and I see more Penske trucks than anything else. I think I will switch my reservation over to Penske. Thanks for the tip!

BEST is subjective

what defines BEST for you?

and it will also be a crap shoot as to what you get equipment wise. Uhaul had some horrible PR a number of years ago, because they had OLD equipment out there.. Any more they have pretty new one way equipment. (we rent uhauls where I work, but it's not our main buisness but I'll still share my exp with you)

Make sure the place you rent from has lower decks. Penske and budget I think have lower ones, but many of their trucks are 'dock height' which is a pain in the butt to load. steep ramp etc. Uhauls arent made to haul freight, they are made to move houses their decks are much, much lower. Uhaul will also match any rate you find with no problem. All of them have road side assist if you have a problem and the resposnse time with be directly related to where you may have a problem.

If you get a chance, seriously, go look at the size trucks you are looking at and see how they are laid out etc.
