We are looking to save major money. room-done,tickets-AP's,travel-done. So, where can we cut corners IN the parks? Are lunches really cheaper and just as good at sitdowns? Do they ever have "clearance corners" on souveniers?

lunches are usually a cheaper than dinners, and they usually have the same foods.

We have seen some discounts on items at the stores, too. My daughter still wears a hat I bought her 4 years ago (on sale!!!!)

If you like ice cream -- go to the All Star Resorts AFTER 4 p.m. and get a cookie icecream sandwich. 2 big cookies and 3 big scoops of icecream. Cheap, too.

rams408- may I ask why after 4pm?
The ice cream sounds delicious. Is it just at the allstars? How about the POP?

Do they ever have "clearance corners" on souveniers?
If you have a car, there is a Walmart on Rt 192 in Kissimmee that has tons of Disney souveniers at very reasonable prices. The catch is that they say "Florida" instead of "WDW", but worth it if you don't mind that (and you can pick up a few groceries too). :rotfl:

If your kids are young and don't know any better, you could also get away with buying some things from The Disney Store, Disney Direct online or WalMart and bringing them with you or giving them before your trip. You might want to suggest to family or give yourself some Disney Dollars to your kids for their birthdays or special occasions so they can buy something of their choice in the parks without worrying about the cost.

Have a great trip! :wizard:

Great idea's!

My tip is to get a wrap combo at Pecos Bill's, it is HUGE and feeds 2 of us.

I agree if you're going to eat meals you might consider lunch instead of dinner, preferably on the later side, like 2pm or so. It is a nice break at a "slower" time and also fills you up for the rest of the day.

Like petchie said, you can also "graze" in the parks, sharing things instead of big meals. This works pretty well, especially at Epcot, where you can graze your way through the World Showcase, LOL.

We do a quick grocery stop on the way to WDW from the airport, and get breakfast items (cereal, fruit, yogurt), drinks (water, juice boxes) and a few snacks which saves $$ and is healthier than eating breakfast in a restaurant or food court.

Tubbi's Buffeteria at the Dolphin offers an AAA discount (I believe, have read on these boards but not verified). They have quick foods but also serve meals like steak, beef stew, fish and chips, etc. You could even eat outside by the pool if you wanted a nicer setting than cafeteria tables. (And an added bonus is that they serve Starbucks coffee ;) ).

Our last trip to WDW was a cheapo trip motivated by an expiring AP and several meal vouchers that would expire in May 2005.

We had a room at CSR, so we had a refrigerator at our disposal. With a quick grocery stop, coutesy of our TiffanyTowncar driver, we loaded up on soda, juice, bagels, milk, fruit, cream cheese, jelly & danish. I brought coffee and tea in our bags and there was a coffeemaker in the room to heat the water. We ate breakfast in the room every morning while each of us took turns showering.

We brought our Brita Fill & Go water bottles and never bought beverages in the parks. We filled them with ice and water in the morning and just refilled with free ice water from any concession stand.

Sharing platters is always a cheap way to go when dining at the counterservice locations. You can get a double cheeseburger and purchase an extra bun for a few cents. Then, reconstruct the double cheeseburger into to single-patty burgers. Voila! A meal for two! And don't feel shy about ordering a Kids' Meal if you're a light eater. Why pay for food that you won't eat?

At sitdown restaurants, skip the appetizer, dessert and coffee. Stick to the entrée and ice water. If you really want an appetizer, order one to share. The same goes for dessert. Soup can be very filling but inexpensive to order. If the weather isn't steaming hot, you may find that soup and a house salad suites you just fine.

If you like to munch between meals, bring munchies with you into the parks. I can usually get by with a packet of crackers and a roll of Lifesavers. The kids are bigger snack consumers and we end up buying ice cream to keep them satisfied.

Keep souvenir spending to a minimun. Set a budget before hand and stick to it. If you have a car, try the Character Outlet for clearance items.

Coming back to this Board ... when I planned previous trips ... www.wdwig.com had a menu tab with meal costs.
It was enormously helpful to me ... check it out AND have a GREAT TRIP !!!!

DBF and I are poor, poor college students, so here's a few tips we used when we went down in May:

-Like another poster said, the suveniers at Walmart are fantastic! They're less than half the price, and they're great for friends or family at home. We limited ourselves to 1 or 2 unique souveniers in the parks.

-We just had cereal for breakfast.. we're not big breakfast people to begin with. We had a fridge in our room, but even if you don't you can get milk and put it in the ice bucket with lots of ice.

-We had a kitchen in our room, so we made spaghetti the night we went to AK. Afterwords, we just had a milkshake at Ghardelli's (sooooo good!).

-I love using ziploc bags when we go to the parks. I don't like to get a locker, so i usually bring either a large purse or a small backpack with me. On water rides (Splash Mtn, Kali Rapids) I put my camera, cell phone, park ticket, and money (or anything else you don't want getting wet) into a ziploc and even if i come out soaked, all my electronics are bone dry!

-Another thing DBF and I (well, just me. if it were up to him to plan, we'd be out there in our underwear and snow boots) did before we went to the parks: we got a 12 pack of diet coke and a 12 pack of those mini bottled waters (pepsi, sprite, lemonade.. whatever your pleasure!) and put 2 cans of pop in a ziploc bag with ice, and 2 bottles of mini water in another with ice, and viola! It kept the drinks cold and saved everything else in my bag from getting wet. It saved us A LOT because we only bought drinks at full service restaurants (we only went to one or two).

-A very common thing is to share counter service meals if you're not a huge eater. We went to Casey's for lunch at MK and got a hot dog, fries, and those mini corn dog pieces. Under $10 for 2 people for lunch!

-Limit sitdown meals. We only had 3 FS meals.. California Grill, Crystal Palace, and the Coral one at Living Seas. Everything else was CS, in the room, or off property.

There is an inexpensive sit down meal buffet at FW. They serve some of the same food they do at Hoop De Doo. It is much less than the buffet dinners in the parks.

We also took our Brita fil and go bottles. We took packets of Crystal light lemonade and never bought a drink in the parks. Our children never asked for a soda unless we were having a sit down meal. This saved our family of five a small fortune. I also bought souveniers for my children at the DIsney store on clearance including stuffed Mickeys, gliders and light up toys for the evenings. I then bought 3 gift bags and each night I would fill the bags with a "surprise Mickey gift." My children loved this and 6 days of souveniers cost me less than $35.00.

We saved a large amount of money at Breakfast Time before we even left the resort
I have some tips if you want email me

kids lunch...

stayed at ASMo...had three small children to feed at lunch in the park, so at breakfast I bought six pcs of bread...30 cents ea...three peanut butters 50 cents each.....and grape jelly was free...made three sandwitches for the kids....beats the heck out of buying lunches in the park (providing kids like PB&J)

In park...double cheesburger can be seperated into two cheesburgers if you get an extra bun....

I'm sure more people can come up with others....

When we went...I knew my daughter (age 7) would have the 'gimmes' if we went into a shop....sooo, my greatest money saver was to STAY OUT OF THE SHOPS! LOL! it worked though!
seriously...every day when she woke up , i had laid out a new shirt (bought on clearance all year long at the disney shop) and a toy or treat that coordinated with the shirt (also clearance! yay for bargain shopping!) some of the items were stickers, small stuffed animals, games she could play in line at the park, gummy treats, a hat, new sun glasses...etc... she never felt the need to beg in the stores then!...of course on the last day we let her pick out something in downtown disney. it worked wonderfully-she was happy and mom and dad didn't go broke!!

Don't forget the outlets near WDW. Real park/DISNEY merchandise at outlet prices. The closest ones are the Lake Buena Vista outlet and the the Florida Premium Outlet. And they have I thuink 2 at the Belz outlets. Check www.outletbound.com

You probably can cut your sit-down meal costs in half by going off-site to the Golden Corral, Sizzler, etc. I know this is a little less magical, but if you're hungry it sure fills the bill. Those places are not too far away, either. Although, I'm not a great fan of Disney pizza, a large one can feed a family.

If your car is big enough bring alot of goodies from home. There are plenty of non-refrigerated items you can take with you like pudding, jello, applesauce, fruit cups, breakfast bars, nuts, snacks, etc. Many of those items you can take with you to enjoy in the parks, too. We bring a large cooler with us and fill it up at home with non-perishables. Bring your own drinks. You can always get ice from the resort, etc. You need to be diligent about changing the ice, but for a little effort you save alot. If you have a frig in the room, you can think about buying bread and sandwiches there. Cheese, lunchmeat, spreads, peanut butter, jelly, etc. will give you enough variety for doing sandwiches. Sometimes, I like doing this just because I don't want to spend all the time doing a sit-down restaurant, waiting in line to eat, etc. It's not just to be cheap, but it saves time.

All the suggestions above are good, too.
