Best Times To Go In January?

We are hoping to make our first trip to Universal in January. The dates we can go are flexible between January 3-18. We want to go to the parks on weekdays and stay 2-3 days. Is there a certain time during that period that would be best to go? Is there something going on around January 10th? When I try a few dates, some on-site hotels are showing as unavailable around that time.

Would EPs be necessary on weekdays in January? I'm guessing it may be too cold for Volcano Bay, but I assume the resort pools are all heated?

I booked a trip to orlando coming in the 10th recently, pickings were slim. MLK is weekend after & a very busy time. You may be running into minimum stays if booking the 12th. At WDW the rates jump dramatically that Friday.

Last year hit the first & 2nd (MLK weekends) surrounding a cruise. Both weekends were busy. I'm from the north, had my winter coat on the first weekend, an unusual cold snap. Was much nicer the 2nd. It's hit or miss but most resort pools in MCO heated.

I'd suggest checking arriving Tues after MLK (1/16) or Monday (1/22). Any later & you run into HP celebration & Pro Bowl crowds.

Make sure to google as to conventions in the area. If any @ Universal resorts, they will release the unneeded rooms a month to 3 weeks out.
