We're planning another trip to dw and want to go in sept/oct but was wondering best ideal time to go? When are the least crowds and when wont it be so extremely hot? I will have a 3 month old so that's why i'm asking. Also my kids very much want to stay at the nick hotel. We stayed there last year but when I input dates this year the price has gone up significantly. Where can a family of 7 stay fairly cheap for a week. We might do 3-4 days at nick hotel but 8 days was $1400. Very expensive. Thanks.

Late Sept is a great time to go, although it can still be pretty hot and humid. We typically go mid-Oct, but with fall break crowds (esp around Columbus Day) it is pretty crowded (although not like Christmas or spring break crowds). The last week of Oct is a good time to go also. We find Oct to be more comfortable than Sept. We've rented a house in Windsor Hills with 8 people for under $150 per night. I'd look for a townhouse/condo in that area. We've had great luck with vrbo.com or homeaway.com.

I'm a big fan of late Sept/early Oct. While it's still pretty hot, it's not as bad as the middle of the summer, and not nearly as crowded. Plus you've got Food and Wine and MNSSHP to enjoy. I agree with finding a condo offsite - not only will you have more room, you'll be able to get a kitchen and a washer/dryer, which I imagine would be pretty helpful with 7!

we went late sept/early oct last year. was hotter than i'd hoped (my fault, most likely) and it rained a bit, although i don't think that's normal. While crowds were less than when we went in August another year, it was still pretty crowded and still had to use all of our tricks to save time, etc.

We went in early Oct last year - it was still pretty hot plus we had F&W. I've heard starting with Columbus Day and later the crowds get worse - but when we were there it wasn't too bad. Look at the crowd calendars on Touring Plans and easywdw for ideas.
