Best time to make room request? (BLT)

We are going for a partial week over Thanksgiving - when is the optimal time to make the room request? We have a pretty specific request since we are in a standard room.

Also - does the Touring plans fax request still work? I never got any confirmation that it was received, and is it any better or clearer than just doing it with DVC directly?

The best way is to call MS and have them add a comment to your reservation probably about a week ahead of time. We always do this and have always gotten our requests, but that’s probably just luck. Don’t fax a request - I’ve heard they thow all the faxes away.

We usually make our requests as soon as we decide on what we want. Our theory is that if they have more than one request for the same thing, they'll give priority to the first to make that request. That goes back to the days when BWV had only two booking categories, Standard view and Preferred view, and if you wanted a BW view you had to request it when you booked Preferred view. They filled those on a first come, first served basis, and so I hope they do the same with requests now.

We usually send an email to MS, using the Contact Us email button, so that we have a record of our requests, but the Chat function and calling work just as well.

There's no "best time" to make requests. You call member services, they type it into a field on your reservation record. You can do it when you make a reservation or any time after that.

I've heard reports of people getting faxed requests at DVC resorts, but it isn't anything I'd take a chance on, personally. Too many opportunities for a fax to get lost or discarded or missed. I'd rather have someone type it in while I'm on the phone with them.

I would request my room's view request when book or decide what location I want by contacting member services by phone or email. But I would definitely have it added no later than 3 weeks before check-in as the room assigner starts to assign rooms around then.

We make our requests once we're certain that's where we are staying. I just email MS our requests.

I emailed ours to MS just after the reservation was confirmed. We had a great room that certainly met the request.

I've used touringplans reservation request several times and it has typically worked quite well.
