We want to go look around the AKL, includign the animals on the savannahs, and have dinner at Bomas one night in October.

Any suggestions about the best time to get for our PS? I hear that dusk is a good time to view the animals. Don't knwo when dusk is but I think it will be full dark by 7:30 as this was the time for Fantasmic in Oct last year. Thanks in advance for your help. -- Suzanne

The best time for Boma is when you're really hungry. Aside from that, if you want to eat first and then view the animals, you might want an early PS (around 5), although you may find later (7:30-8:00) is better so you can look at the animals first, stroll around AKL, and maybe have a Safari Amber at Victoria Falls.

Kungaloosh!
Mort.

We had our PS at 6:40 pm and saw plenty of animals before and after our meal. Still light when we finished eating too (I think we were there maybe an hour tops).

We had a PS for 5:20 and was there a little early. We saw plenty of animals before and after our meal.

Enjoy!!

The savanahs are lit by artificial moon light, so you can still observe them even after the sun sets.

Have a great trip!

Can you view animals from within Boma?

No, you can't see any animals from Boma, but there are several overlooks within the resort that give you sights on each savanah.

Suggest PS about 7:30PM. This will give you time to see the animals and enjoy the story telling at Arusha Rock firepit. During our visits story telling time is at 6:30PM but double check times with CM.

May 28, 2003 - Wednesday
We did AK in the afternoon - just for the Lion King Show.
We had a 6:30 pm Boma PS.

AK closed at 5 PM.
We found the right bus line for AKL - yes there was a line
of people waiting, 2 people with wheel chairs (God Bless them).
Wheel chairs loaded first with their families (nice thing to do).
So we had to wait for the next bus - 40 minutes later.

So- for AKL only a hop-skip-jump away, we finally made it to
Boma's at 6:10 PM. Enough time to get washed up in
the bathrooms (right next to Boma's).
We were given a pager and seated within 15 minutes.

The food is wonderful. Some American style and some
African style. Try the flat breads. The desserts are
great. They have a carving board. I do not remember
all the food - we were hungry and just ate and ate
from the buffet.

We were able to walk around the lobby and part of
the hotel. Nice views of the Savanah and the wood
work in the lobby is fabulous

My DH said he liked the hotel - but having a bus to everywhere
was not his 'cup of tea'.
We stayed at the CR - on the monorail.
Last year we stayed at the Dolphin (boats, walking to EPCOT,
and buses).

Not sure about 2005. DS votes for the Poly. DH votes for the
Dolphin. DD votes for the CR. I vote for the deluxe resort with
the best discount :)

GIVE YOURSELF ENOUGH TRAVEL TIME.
The buffet will be there waiting for you.
Plenty of food.

enjoy ;)

I don't like the buses either...but did you know that AKL is the only deluxe resort that doesn't have boats or monorail access? Makes you wonder how they got to be deluxe in the first place...

. . . for all the great info!

We are going to be at AK for the 4 pm parade, but we will have out car to get to AKL. I made a PS for 5:40, which looks like it is either too late or too early.

I will be there with my 3 yo niece and didn't want to eat too late. Would a 3 yo enjoy the story-telling? Also, is there another nightly ritual that is worht beign there for?

If so, I may want to re-think my PS time.

Again, thank you all. -- Suzanne

I thought the busstop was pretty far away from the entrance, considering this is a deluxe resort.
We had 7PM PS on the night we went last August and had a fair wait before being called. Must have been a busy night.

I am sorry you feel that way, I think this is a beautiful property, I don't base Deluxe on boat or monrail, but on ambiance, theming, amenities, and service. Everyone has their own opinion, I just happen to disagree with you.

Take a little time on your next trip and stop in at AKL. I am sure you will see why this is a deluxe hotel. Boats and the monarail would take away from the theme of this hotel.

I know how AKL became a deluxe resort.... Beautiful setting, wonderful CMs, extraordinary atmosphere. It is nothing but top notch. I don't think I'll ever stay anywhere else again. The buses were never crowd, we never waited long and I didn't have to stand or be mobbed like I have on monarails or boats. You should try it, you might be surprised!! I was!!
