We're going on a plane ride next month (1.5 hrs on the plane) with DS. Hes almost 2 years old. He has is own seat and we plan to bring the snacks and water to help his ears. The ride over is around nap time and he may just pass out. *fingers crossed* but the ride back isnt...

What is the best thing to bring on the plane to entertain him.

Books, crayons and a coloring book, puppets, and I agree on the portable dvd player if you have one.

a portable DVD player!
That is a really good idea! You could also bring coloring books or a book to read to him.

We took DS when he was around 22 months old and I brought some Color Wonder coloring books, regular books to read and of course the requisite snacks and sippy cup. Our flight was about 2.5 hours and between his general excitement over the plane and the few things I brought he was fine.

When we went to WDW a couple of months ago, my dd had just turned two. I bought a special bag for each dd. Inside was crayons, coloring book, snacks, some lollipops, and I bought a small travel size magna doodle for each which turned out to be a hit!! They still play with it now.
