This Feb may be the first time Ive gone to WDW solo. I can do the parks myself but not sure about the sitdown restaurants. Which would be best for a solo?

I like Coral Reef, Sci-Fi, and 'Ohana--there's lots to watch! :goodvibes

Also, I enjoy the Brown Derby, Portobello Yacht Club, and Fulton's Crab House.

There's no need to be hesitant about dining alone anywhere in WDW--no one pays any attention--except the waitperson! :teeth:

To me, the Sci-Fi is great for a "first solo sit down meal". It was my first solo meal at WDW. Here's a link to my first solo trip report. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=892657

The food is decent, but not amazing. The atmosphere of going to a drive in more than makes up for it! Lights are down low and you get to watch Sci-Fi clips and cartoons, etc. Sometimes the waiter/waitress will call you the "hitch-hiker" if you're seated in a car with others, but this did not happen to me. Anyway, I wouldn't have minded.

Any questions, let me know. It is my fav restaurant at WDW.

Jen - thanks for the link to your solo trip report. I put it in my favorites

I agree about Sci-Fi. Another one I liked was Chefs de France at lunch with a window table (always gotten a window table in 3 trips). CRT for lunch used to be good with a window table, too. However, if this is your first trip, good luck with table service. Maybe you'll be OK the first time, but it took me about 4 solo trips to feel comfortable dining solo at TS. Now(7 solo trips) I actually prefer it to CS!

I had great meals and service at all of the sit down places I've visited solo.

I would probably rate California Grille best for being solo, cuz they do have several bar areas that overlook different cooking areas, you can chat with other solos or with the chefs and servers.

But, as I said, I've never had a bad time at any of them (Alfredo's, Yachtsmans Steakhouse, Sci-Fi, Shula's, Concourse Steak House, Grand Floridian Cafe).

I like the Brown Derby, Sci-Fi, and Chefs de France best. My tips are 1) don't eat at the peak dining hours (have a late lunch or early dinner and you won't feel as rushed), and 2) if you're nervous, do a "practice run" at a local restaurant first.

As you stated with California Grill, the counter by the open kitchen is a great
place for solo dining. In that same vein, I'd also recommend Jiko and
Flying Fish for similar experiences, but you get to see the most kitchen
action at CG.

I'm comfortable enough to dine solo anywhere. When I go to theme park
restaurants, I bring a book. The server at the 50's Prime Time once pointed
me out as a good example for the other "children", as I was quiet and well
behaved. :rotfl:

It really depends on your comfort level. For those who aren't yet that
comfortable dining solo, I think the counter seating places are good
choices.

I am comfortable at most of the counter service places. Sci-Fi at MGM is perfect for a solo. You will have to share one of the "Cars" but that felt fine to me, especially if you are put in the back seat. I've done quite a few buffet breakfasts, but solo, I prefer Non-Character.

For breakfast, consider Boatwright's at POR. The food is good (standard fare and a few southern dishes), and the servers always make me feel as though I've come home after a long trip - lots of motherly fussing at the podium and excellent service at the table.

My first ever solo dine was at Biergarten at Germany. I wasn't a big fan of the food, but was put at a table with another family. They were very nice and we enjoyed chatting about the theme parks.

I agree that Chefs de France is good. A nice window table is good for people watching.

I have to stay I really enjoyed ESPN Club at the BoardWalk. There was lots to keep my attention even if I didn't have a dining companion. Also, many bars serve appetizers and I always enjoyed chatting with the bartenders.

I'm trying more new places this time solo, but on my last trip Brown Derby, 'Ohana, and Le Cellier were great!
