I'm very new to dvc (still waiting to get my log in info from Disney) and was wondering if there were any tips for switching at 7 months?

If you want to split stay, book each part by itself at 11 months so you can modify just the days you want.

If you are replacing the entire trip, just go in and modify it and then it will show what it available!

This may be a dumb question but let's say I book 3 nights individually at my home resort but then just decide to stay at the home resort instead of switching or split staying.....will I be in the same room for all 3 of those nights?

Just call member services and ask them to merge the reservations into one. Then you have no worries about being moved.

There really isn't any tips really.

You get to 7 months and sign on when the booking opens and try to book the room. If you have freedom on when the trip falls you can always sign in throughout the time period. You can also try putting in wait lists.

If you are open to it you can always do split stays and at your 11 month window book 1/2/3/4/5/6 whatever number of days broken up (smaller better) so at 7 months you can switch nights out as you can't later break up the reservation. The risk you have though is you could end up with the split stays between the different resorts so you have to weigh the risk you want to take. So I guess that is a tip but not one I would actively suggest just because I dont really like doing a bunch of split stays.

Really the biggest thing is practice getting the booking right when the booking window opens. That way you can get down the timing and such and know how it work to grab a room (once it shows where you enter names on the reservation it means you "got it" so you can then just cancel at that point since you dont actually want the room).

Have a good idea of the probability of what you want even being available at seven months. And then have multiple choices for your switch. For instance, if you want BCV in the Summer, you'll need luck, but if you are willing to take BCV/BWV (any View), then VGF, Poly, Riv, etc, you can go down the list until you switch.

Or you can book what you can, waitlist, and try to piece something together. That's too much stress for me, so I've always switched at seven months with a list. But then we also bought where we don't mind ending up, so we are happy if we end up with the reservation we made at home.

Flexibility is needed for setting up a split stay especially during a busy season. Have a back up plan to your back up plan and make sure you are still content it all fails and you just stay at your home resort. That's why everyone says make sure you buy your contract somewhere you want to stay at.

I've had both success's and failures, I bet most of us have. If it's important to you to be able to do split stays get your next contract (there will always be a next contract.) somewhere else.
