Best Split Stays?

FINALLY going back to Disney with both kids after 7 years (silly thing called college got in the way 😉)
We are planning to rent a 2 bedroom. “ Kids“ are 23 & 21 and will both bring a friend.
We are definitely staying at one of our home resorts BCV/BWV but want to split the stay at a DVC we’ve never stayed at. The list is pretty long, the only other DVCs we‘ve been to are: BLT/OKC/VWL.
Kind of ironic Pete just did a split stay podcast. That’s been our plan all along for this trip. In your opinion, what are the best resorts to do a split stay?
TIA!

Given your kids ages, being near DS be something you might enjoy for nightly drinks or entertainment.

I have done that and it was great. When not doing that, I typically split between MK and Epcot area. I love doing the split stays!

Beach Club and BLT is a great combo. Also Boardwalk and Animal Kingdom. Also any of the above with OKW and SSR. I love to have two very different resorts in 2 locations- 2 vacations in one. I may try WL and, say, Boardwalk next- former more relaxing and isolated but ferry boat to MK, latter for Epcot and HWS and busier area.

My kids are just turning 21, 21 and 23 (like in the next few weeks). We own at BWV and CCV and HHI. Also once owned OKW and AKV. We go a lot, even through college years (but mostly just the hubby and I with SIL and BIL since their kids too were off at college...they also own DVC at SSR and AKV). Anyway, here are where our college kids (who have been able to join us at various times over the years) like to stay: SSR, BWV/BCV and Poly. SSR they like Congress Park so they can walk over to DS for food, shopping, drinks, movies....etc. BWV they like for walking to 2 parks and also having a lot of food/drink options around. Poly, my DDs love and are staying there with friends this summer. They like the layout of that studio with a 2 part bathroom and the theme of the resort. And they are looking forward to ordering the Ohana feast to the room via room service. They also like hopping on monorail. Another draw all the 20-somethings really liked was the new gondolas. So Riviera might also be a decent choice. They love the ease and speed of taking the gondolas. I think anywhere close to DS, HS or Epcot as I think those are the big faves of the 20-something set. Epcot for drinking and eating. HS for Star Wars. ANd DS for shopping, eating and drinking.

We did BLT for my DDs' (twins) 20th Bday last year and they hated it. Too many little kiddos and strollers and can only walk to MK which they don't care all that much for currently. OKW we did not long ago too and AKV and they just don't have enough around, nothing to walk to. We were even just in a 3BR GV at Jambo right before Xmas with DDs and their 2 friends (also college girls) and luckily it was just 2 nights as any longer than that wouldn't have appealed to them. They weren't big on Sanaa and that type of food. The animal watching is great for a minute. And they didn't even touch the pool table which I thought they'd get a big kick out of.

So I'd say any combo of BWV/BCV/RR with Poly or SSR.

With young adults over 21, I would split with SSR Congress Park area.

Since you want to stay somewhere you've never stayed before and all the kids are 21 or older, I would say SSR.

Thanks everyone! 🤗
SSR wasn‘t even on my radar. I’ll have to do more research, I feel like that’s the one resort people either love or hate, no in-between.
Was leaning towards CCV or Poly with a split at BWV.
You‘ve all given me something to think about. 🤔

Look at the renovated rooms at SSR- only RIV are better. Really think about it, but you won't guarantee a reno room unless you book preferred and go after May.

We're doing a split stay this summer. My plan was a monorail resort (to be near Magic Kingdom) and then BWV (walking distance to both HS and Epcot.) We were able to get the Grand Floridian villas and BWV. My girls will be 16 and 20.

I am one of those that hates SSR--DH and I aren't fond of the theming and it's just too big for us. Lol, we prefer long hallways over multiple buildings!

I liked our stay at Poly, but I assume you'd be getting 2 studios as they don't have 2 bedrooms (well...bungalows but who has the points for more than a night there!) If you decide on 2 studios at the Poly, I'd do that first and then get the true 2 bedroom for the second part of your stay so you'll have laundry in your room. For our summer trip, the first 5 nights are in a studio, next 4 in a 1 bedroom, then we're doing a 4 nt DCL cruise, and then 1 nt at AKV. Works out, so we'll do laundry before we go on the cruise.

Why not go way out there and do a DCL and DVC combo?
I have done:
VB - 2 nights, DCL - 7 nights, and BWV - 5 nights
Never set foot in a park the whole trip and had a great time.

As per above...we did VB for 4 nights and Universal Hard Rock for 2 nights once. ANd also HHI for 4 nights and OKW for 3 nights. Both were great trips, IMO. We also didn't set foot inside WDW parks. We did US the 2 nights there and then the OKW trip we did SeaWorld, the pool and Downtown Disney as well as a dinner at Ohana. I really liked that but DH not so much. He feels the need to go in the parks if we're that close.

I'd add that 2-3 nights a Vero with older kids is probably enough. The resort is remote with not much around. Have to drive over bridge and off island to get to restaurants and stuff. My kids were a tad bored by day 3. They were like 15, 13 and 13 then. HHI is more fun with a lot around the resort that you can even walk to.

I even one time did a triple split where my mom and 2 DDs and I went to WDW for 5 nights, stayed at SSR and BWV, and then met all the guys at HHI for 4 more nights. I think DDs were like 15 or 16 then. Also another trip we did SSR and BWV and another we did AKV and BWV. We like to do AKV every few years. But SSR we can do often. It is quiet. The rooms are now being renovated. We can pop over to DS easily for eating, drinking, shopping, seeing a movie. We own at BWV so we do most trips there in some part. Though we have spring F&G trip booked and could have gotten BWV but chose all SSR. I do have the 2 nights at the end waitlisted for AKV club level. Not expecting that to come through though. My DDs are also going but staying with 2 friends and they requested the Poly. I had them booked at BWV but at 7 months I asked them what resort they'd prefer to switch to, if any, and they said Poly.

Thinking of a split stay for our upcoming October 2020 trip. Which two DVC resorts would you choose? Family of 8 (5 adults, 7yo, 5yo, infant). Was thinking BC or BW (to be close to Epcot/HS) or Riviera for newness and skyliner. Then either OKW, AKL, or WL but each have their pros and cons...

We've done the split of BCV and AKV several times. Go to MK and AK from AKV, then Epcot and DHS from BCV. Liked that.
Once we did a Poly/BCV split. That would have been good, too, if we'd liked the Poly.
