Baby by Justin Bieber.
Best. Song. Ever!!!!!!!!

LOL My 2 year old niece was singing this song this morning- except she was singing, "Bacon, Bacon, Bacon" :rotfl2:

Edited to add: I think the best song of all time is The Pretender by Jackson Browne. Very poignant.

I go with Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone, But some on this list mede me pause

Would add
Alleluia
Allison E. Costello
America Paul Simon
Changes by Bowie

Only I am not a huge older rock fan but am surprised I have never heard of Shine a Light by the Stones.
I am going to you tube now
For Stones would have added Memory Motel

Love Allison...it's actually my husbands favorite song. We have 2 daughters and was shocked that he didn't want to use the name for either of them...first or middle.

I am so loving this thread ... hope it keeps going!

Where the Streets Have No Name, U2.

Best version is on the Elevation Live from Boston DVD.

My personal favorite is "Into the Mystic" by Van Morrison!
I also love "One" by U2.

Pretty narrow minded of most of us to assume the best song ever had to have been written in the last 50 years and in America...

Now you've got me thinking. ;)

In that case, for best song EVER, I will say Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.
Linky link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAOTCtW9v0M

Now as far as the past 50 years go, my vote is a tie... "The Thrill is Gone" by B.B. King and "Proud Mary" by CCR. "Free Bird" gets an honorable mention. :)

Actually there are alot of songs on the list that were not written by Americans ;)

You serious?

Cause in order for me to judge what I think is the best song ever, I would have to actually HEARD the song. It isn't narrow-minded...it's a limited list of options. Nobody is assuming anything, just giving opinions based on songs they're familiar with.

Personally, I reject Beethoven/Mozart etc because I consider their work to be "music" (and incredible music at that) rather than a song. YMMV.

Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings.

Absolutely.

Best.

Of.

All.

Time.

Great song, but I love Tiesto's version of it much more. :)
I like your favorite song :flower3:...But would you consider it the best song ever?

If so, then it's a great choice!

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. I like seeing all the different opinions. BTW, my 7 minute rule only really applies to my selections. If Loooooooooooooooong songs don't bother you then by all means say it loud and proud!

I love long songs. :)

This is a difficult question, being that I love so many songs but these are some of the best songs of all time, in my opinion

Sounds of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel
Somebody to Love - Jefferson Airplane for me it would be Queen's version
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Let it Be - The Beatles
Imagine - John Lennon
With a Little Help From My Friends - The Beatles
Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel
Revolution - The Beatles
Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys
Yesterday - The Beatles

I couldn't pick just one. :]
I love all these. Of course, just about anything from the Beatles is great.

Good Vibrations...the Beach Boys
Great song!

#1 Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
Definitely another great song.

I'll have to go with Clair De Lune by Claude Debussy as the my #1 stand-alone song. Perfect beginning, middle and end ::yes::. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKd0VII-l3A
Love this one too.

The ONLY best song ever is.....

Hotel California by The Eagles. :worship:
Their best song. :)

Well since you didn't like my favorite song, I will vote "Angie" by the Rolling Stones as BEST song. :thumbsup2 Honorable mention would go to "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart. I considered voting "American Pie" by Don McLean in honor of today being the Fourth of July (since the word "American" is in the title) but since you have that seven minute rule, I guess "American Pie" doesn't qualify. ;)

I love American Pie, the full version.

Just one? Wow - this is hard! How about one for a few different genres?

Pop - Michael Jackson Thriller

Classical - Beethoven Symphony No. 9 In D minor, Op. 125 "Choral": IV Presto
Love these too. :thumbsup2
I would have to add anything by Mozart.

If I had to pick just one song it would be Hey Jude by the Beatles.
Just about anything by the Beatles could qualify.

Well then
Ode to Joy or Rhapsody in Blue(American)
Both great songs.

I would also have to add Fascinatin' Rhythm by Gershwin.

I could pick a multitude of songs from Cole Porter and Irving Berlin.

And yes, I'm going to say it. White Chrtistmas. :)

Children by Robert Miles - Original version

Unfortunately, No one will ever come up with the Greatest song ever because everyone thinks differently. ;)

I have four

"Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen
"Somebody to love" By Queen
"Imagine" by John Lennon
"Hey Jude" by the Beatles

I prefer Squirrels in My Pants.....an instant classic!

:cool1: That and the Aglet song...I'm waving a virtual lighter in the air.

I will add Unchained Melody, and after this weekend listening to summer songs - Under the Boardwalk.

C'mon...you know you all know it...

DH, my cousin, and I are all debating what song is the best song ever. We've all come up with some pretty good offerings, so I thought I'd seek out some of your opinions.

DH suggests:
Paint It Black...The Rolling Stones

I said:
Dream On...Aerosmith
Kashmir...Led Zeppelin

Cousin says:
Won't Get Fooled Again...the Who
Honorable mentions to:
Baba O-Reilly...The Who

Werewolves of London...Warren Zevon
The Weight...The Band
Good Vibrations...the Beach Boys
Helter Skelter...The Beatles
Layla...Clapton (really Derek and The Dominoes, but it's all just Clapton to me!)
Free Bird...Skynyrd (though I say any song over 7 minutes gets axed for "insisting upon itself"!)
Sweet Home Alabama...Skynyrd

I agree with your cousin. Those are my top 2 songs!
