Through stages of my life, it's been various songs. These are the ones that I never get tired of:

I always loved Maggot Brain by Funkadelic. Still think this is an amazing song. (Jenasis you won't like it, it's almost 10 minutes long. )

Ripple by the Grateful Dead.

Cortez the Killer by Neil Young.


If you've never listened to Thorazine Shuffle by Gov't Mule, you are truly missing out. Seriously one of the best bands out there. The bass line on that song just gets to you.

Born in the USA is a great song, but definitely not patriotic!

Now I get it! I went to a fireworks display on July 4th in NY and started singing that song and got some of the strangest looks...

That is a great song below - but too obscure to be the best ever. Some really good ones mentioned here - i'm thinking more along the lines of classic songs rather than my own favorites, so maybe "Bridge over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel?

I do not like Imagine and dislike Bruce Springsteen. I would have thought someone would have picked "Don't stop Believing"

I would pick Funeral For A Friend by Elton John.

A PP said "November Rain" by Guns 'n Roses, which I LOVE, but my all time favorite song that I keep coming back to, through all the musical phases of my life, is "Patience" by Guns 'n Roses. Not even sure why...just love that song for some reason!


ETA - Okay, sorry...just read the clarification that it isn't OUR favorite song, but the best song of all time. That's a lot harder!!! Hmmm....I'll have to think about that one!

I'm not a huge Springsteen fan, but seeing as it's 4th of July weekend, how about "Born in the USA"?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. I like seeing all the different opinions. BTW, my 7 minute rule only really applies to my selections. If Loooooooooooooooong songs don't bother you then by all means say it loud and proud!
