Best seafood restaurants within walking distance?

So I've been to DLR countless times (spent 20 years in the Bay, 5 years in West LA) but have always eaten junk food or whatever happens to be fast. Usually too tired to care. But heading down this weekend and going to take things at a slower pace this time. Anyone know of good seafood restaurants within walking distance? We'll be staying at the GCH, was hoping to find somewhere nearby for a good sitdown seafood dinner. I know some decent places elsewhere in OC but just too lazy to drive this time ... any suggestions for walkable ones? Price isn't a big issue, although dress code would be; we're your typical Silicon Valley types who walk around in shorts and flip-flops and consider that dressing up because it's our "dressy shorts" :)

Thanks in advance for any tips!

There are 2 choices for off-site seafood restaurants within walking distance: Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is on Katella in the Gardenwalk shopping/eating complex. A little further South on Harbor Blvd (slightly outside typical walking distance) will take you to Joe's Crab Shack. Here is a link to a map that should help you see where they are in relation to the park.

We enjoyed Joe's Crab Shack, but the term walkable may be subject to discussion....

Hey thanks! (You too nannyz)

Unfortunately I've eaten at both too many times to count ... was hoping for something more fancy pants :lmao: I've never seen any real seafood joints in the area and figured there probably weren't any. Looks like that's really the case I guess :( These two are our standard fallbacks, may be the best choice anyway since both are casual and we have a pair of toddlers.

BTW off-topic, but what part of MO? I spent my childhood in Columbia before moving to California (just in time to catch the big Bay area quake in '89 and then the Northridge quake in LA in '94). Had 1 tornado touch down during 8 years in MO, and 2 big quakes in 25 years in CA, guess that about evens out...

I live just outside Joplin, MO. I moved to Sarcoxie after the tornado last year took out the city. It was way to depressing living in town after the storm so we moved to the country. Joplin is recovering but I'm not moving back any time soon.

I spent the first 21 years of my life in LA and moved here in 1999. I lived through the Northridge quake as well as the Landers quake. We will be having our first trip back to California in 5 days!

Cool! We sort of switched lives :) I missed Landers because I was in the Bay at the time (ironically only caught Northridge because I was down south for DLR!) but Loma Prieta was definitely a "welcome to California" moment. Joplin was nice, real bummer about the twister :( I haven't been back to MO since leaving in '88 but want to take my kids for at least a visit (and possible relocation) when they're older. Love the city environment myself but just feel like the countryside is better for kids. Hope you have fun when you come back next week!

I have had some amazing seafood at Napa Rose, especially memorable was the Copper River salmon and I don't normally like salmon! The scallops in lobster sauce are also delicious. No real dress code, but pants might be good! :thumbsup2

Thanks, Napa Rose might just owe you some commission! I knew they were in GCH but figured they were some sort of French restaurant serving "land meats" like lamb that I don't each much of (akin to the places we have up here in Napa Valley). But just checked out their menu and looks like they have more American cuisine than I thought. And definitely walking distance (more like elevator distance) too. Score! Thanks for the tip :thumbsup2 And I even packed my "dressy jeans" for the occasion!

Napa Rose, Napa Rose, Napa Rose!!! Excellent seafood choices. Delicious from beginning to end. We had two fabulous meals there last year, one on Christmas Eve, in which not one person in our party could complain about a single thing, and that is HUGE for our family. In May there were 5 of us, in December 6, including a 3 year old and a very picky 9 year old. Both dinners were wonderful 'fancy pants' adventures. We enjoyed dressing up (especially on Christmas Eve) for dinner, but still never leaving the wonder of The Disney Resort. I highly recommend you try it!!!

Sounds good! I don't know what you are up for, but NR has a chef's counter where you sit overlooking the kitchen. The chefs interact with you and can construct a tasting menu based on your preferences. You can also order from the regular menu, too. Very enjoyable and unique experience. You have to call the restaurant directly to reserve at the counter. And yes, it is a Californian inspired restaurant with lots of influences. :)

I'm surprised no one has mention McCormick and Schmick's yet? They're a chain restaurant, but within walking distance of DL (Garden Walk). Their seafood is always fresh.

What about the Steakhouse 55, at the DL Hotel, they have some seafood on the menu...

I was thinking this too.
Also, we have had some good seafood at Blue Bayou.
You certainly cannot go wrong with Napa Rose.

I was going to suggest NR as well, and RFC has some seafood on their menu but it's not nearly as good as NR! :) Enjoy your visit!!

Whoa, I step away from this thread for a quick conference call (yes, I work from home, although you can tell where some time today is being spent :)) and the suggestions come flooding in!

I've had McCormick & Schmick's before, and yep they're always reliable, didn't know there was one in the area -- thanks!

Blue Bayou, Steakhouse 55, noted and will look into both! Hey it's not like these are mutually exclusive or anything so perhaps all will owe disboards some commission soon!

Napa Rose is definitely looking good, though, I can already imagine stuffing myself there and then going upstairs to collapse on the bed. Aahhhhhh. Just need to get through another half a work day now, ugh :rotfl:

Thank you all for the suggestions, my wallet and digestive system are scared but my mouth is salivating :thumbsup2

Napa Rose = to die for

Do it. Just do it.

Not usually a fan of Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen because of a poor service experience I had there, but the food was good and most here feel my service experience was not typical and love the place. They have New Orleans style seafood, if you are into that kind of thing. It is in DTD.
