Anyone have a seafood restaurant recommendation for the Vero Beach area?
When we were there last time, we ate at the Lemon Tree and I thought there was a seafood restaurant that was in that area that was supposed to be good, but it was closed when we were there.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We loved Ocean Grill and will go again this year

When you make a left out of the resort, travel all the way down and you'll see it on the left side

Very good food, casual atmosphere....

We like Jack Baker's Lobster Shanty, great early birds and very good food. The Ocean Grill is likely the best but more expensive.

We loved Captain Hiram's this past summer. The hotel front desk has directions, it is not far at all. Excellent seafood.

Thanks Dean! I was waiting for someone to comment on Jack Baker's Lobster Shanty! This is on my list for Oct.:thumbsup2

We haven't yet found the best seafood restaurant in VB. We ate at Captain Hiram's and it was mediocre (at best) with high prices, the epitome of a tourist trap.

We're going to try the Ocean Grill next trip.

It is our favorite, we have tried most of the ones commonly mentioned. Mr. Manatee is pretty basic, good food and even better prices. We didn't care for Cpt Hirams and didn't care for the looks of squid lips but did not eat there. If you like BBQ, there is a small chain in the area, I think it's Bonos. There is also an Italian restaurant on the far end from Publix in the strip mall just East of the mall in VB, it was fabulous.

A funny story about JBLS from before the hurricane remodel. We do a family trip about EOY which we cover the accommodations for. All the couple's were going out for a dinner out at various times. Since my Mom and step dad didn't have a car, we dropped them off at JBLS for an early bird meal. At the time they gave out conch fritters (I don't recall if they still do) but when my mom was talking about it later, she kept mispronouncing it leaving out the N. She wasn't doing it on purpose and didn't really know why we were all laughing so hard. One of our all time best memories.

Menu for Ocean Grill . We just got back from Aruba paying those type prices (maybe a little higher but not much), my wallet needs a rest for a while.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Now that is too funny! I posted a pic of Squid Lips in my trip report....we were so disappointed after hearing all the hoopla about it. When we drove up upon it, my husband and I took at long look at each other...:lmao: "Well, maybe the food is good" we said! Uhh....nope! Hope not to offend Squid Lips lovers, but never again. Growing up in the Annapolis, MD area, I'm sure I am highly critical of seafood. Now the pics of Jack Baker's looks right up our alley. That is the type of restaraunts we are used to!:goodvibes

I can't personally vouch for Lobster Shanty, but my son and DIL, who is from Alaska and a fishing business family, visited this restaurant last year and they both gave it a thumbs up.

Thanks for your responses! I have never heard of Jack Baker's Lobster Shanty before. Do they have fried seafood, as well as non fried dishes, etc...?
Where is it located?

Their menu sans prices The location is right under the bridge on the south end of the island as you to from the DVC resort to VB and just past Capt Manatee's. It too is a small chain if I recall correctly, started in NJ. While it was fine before, it's quite a bit nicer after the hurricane redo. The prices aren't listed but last I was there it was quite a bit less than the Ocean Grill, maybe $15-17 per early bird meal.

Captain Hirams is the ultimate tourist trap. Previous post discribed the food as mediocre, that would be compliment and by the way it is not close to Disney Vero. About twenty miles north in Sebastian.

The Ocean Grill is pricier than Captain Hiram's I am afraid. But across the street from the Ocean Grill was another seafood restaurant the Vero staff recommended, can't recall the name right now. That was excellent and the prices were very good.

You must be thinking of another place. Captain Hiram's is 6.3 miles from the Vero Beach Resort.

We went to the Ocean Grill 2x this past Nov. I still like it the best. Wish Ozzies Crab House was still open.

I 2nd the place accross the street from OCean Grill as a good place (I also forget the name as well!:confused3 ) I had the Mahi Tacos and they were very good.

My personal fav is Ocean Grill. Yeah I know it is expensive but the food is great (I always get grill Grouper) and the atmosphere is wonderful!

If you want seafood on the cheaps I also like Squid lips for their Mahi Fish fingers app and the manfo salsa Mahi.

Mouth is in full watering mode now!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the menu and location.

I think the place I was thinking about is the Ocean Grill. I think I remember someone saying it is a little pricey, but it sounds like it gets good reviews.

Ocean Grille is the best restaurant in Vero Beach. It is pricey but the atmosphere and food are top notch.

Italian Grille is a very good Italian restaurant on the corner of Route 60 and 58th Ave, about 7-8 miles from the VB resort.

Captain Hirams has a great atmosphere but the food is not very good.

Bobby's is another place on Ocean Drive (next to Mulligans) that has excellent food.

Nino's is a great casual place for Italian food right on Ocean Drive.
