Hi, my husband is currently taking scuba lessons so that when we go on our Jan.12th Disney Wonder Cruise he will be ready. I was wondering for a beginner which place would be good for him? In either Nassau or Freeport.

I have been diving in Nassau but not in Freeport so I can not compare the two but I will say that both will probably be good for a begining diver. Generally because they get many skill levels off of the cruise ships the dive ops have a relatively easy dive for these excursions. I see you are from Iowa, we live in Nebraska and I can guarentee that either place will be a 100% improvement over any place he would make his check out dives around here. Even if he was to go to Okoboji which would be the warmest and clearest spot around here it will be a huge difference.

Thanks for your reply! Did you do a specific excursion in Nassau or did you just book it on your own and where if I may ask did you go thru?

We spent a week on the island diving with Stuart Cove's. They are on the opposite end of the island so I doubt that this is the dive op that Disney uses. If it were me I would stick with the Disney excursion. I know that others have booked their own dives and they may get a better dive for an experienced diver but I would stick with the excursion. With the excursion you don't have to worry about where to go and when to be back they will lead the way. You also don't have to be concerned with a change in itenirary due to weather which you may have to if you book your own trip. I have taken 4 scuba excursions with 3 different crusie lines in the last few years and I would say they were all very good, none bad and none great, but all were good. It was a lot less hasel to use the cruise line excursions than booking my own trip.
