The mascot for Delta State University in Cleveland, MS is the Fighting Okra. Yep, the vegetable that instills fear in the hearts of all!!!!

ETA: I think they just recently changed their mascot to the Statesmen...

I went to an arts middle school. We were the Stars.

My kids went to the Pennichuck Middle School - PMS. DS never would wear the school spirit t-shirt they gave out as they always just used the initials.

That's why our Junior High is not called a middle school. Someone brought up the PMS to the school board who wisely chose PJHS instead.

I thought this was really about best school names.

There is Walt Disney Elementary in a Rochester, NY suburb.

I wish I went to school there.

I think there must be many. There is one in Omaha. Although, Disney forbids them from using any of it's characters--they even threatened lawsuit at one point.

Another school in Omaha in known as the Bunnies. How can anyone fear the Bunnies??

And I went to a HS (Moorhead, MN)whose Mascot was a Spud. Yup--a potato. So at hockey games the other team would thrrow potatoes onto the ice!

my high school was the Saints. Another school that we played a few times was Sidney Lanier and their mascot was "The Poets". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanier_High_School_(Montgomery,_Alabama) Seriously, how intimidating is that? Of course, Bart Starr went to school there.

My college mascot was a Fighting Gamecock (Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, AL). Hardly the unintimidating chicken a few others have referenced.

Hey I went to Walt Disney Elem. in Springfield Mo. My high school was also Brad Pitt's - Kickapoo High School - mascot is the Chief's. My bff from high school has a son going there now. They have t-shirts that say "FEAR the POO" ... I want one so BAD!

A friend teaches at a school that was almost the Prospect Mountain School with the mascot a Crimson Tide...Seriously. They decided to add an R in there for "Regional" school, and I know they decided on a different mascot. The Crimson Tide actually went to a vote, though.


In Maine, our state universities are "University of Maine at" then the town. So University of Maine at Presque Isle is "UMPI" and at Fort Kent they're "UMFK". Gotta love an acronym! I went to college where we were the Fighting Beavers. Get some Beaver Fever! I went to UMF...UMaine Farmington.

heard one time they were building a new elem. school in Dallas and were taking suggestions for names for the school. Some radio dj lobbied hard for "Jerry Haynes Elem. School". If you grew up in/around Dallas, you'd know Jerry Haynes better as good ol' Mr. Peppermint.

WOW - I grew up in Fort Worth & I forgot all about Mr. Peppermint!!! How could I forget the red & white striped jacket & had, thanks for the stroll down memory lane.

There is also a Cleveland 'burb high school where the sports teams are called the Arcs. Somebodyerother Brush High School. Somebodyerother Brush invented the arc light.

We played against the mighty Arcs in high school.

We used to play Brush too. I don't think I ever realized what their mascot was. The posters around our school when we played them used to just say "Paint Brush".
