On the Eastern Caribbean cruise visiting both British and US Virgin Islands.

Any recommendations on Rum to look out for?

And yes, I realize DCL will hold until I disembark.

Recommend Pusser's Rum, the original Rum of the Royal Navy. Only rum used to make an authentic Painkiller. If you'll be docked in Roadtown, Tortola, there's a Pusser's restaurant there--stop by and have a bite and a drink. I think you can buy the rum there too. We love renting a house in Tortola but haven't been back since the hurricane.

Seconded for Pussers. A Painkiller isn’t official without it. The Pussers Outpost in Tortola is back open.

Third-ed for Pusser's. You can buy it in the States, but I find it tastes ever-so-slightly better when you know you bought it in the V.I.

If you can't find any Pusser's, look for Mount Gay.

Pusser's Rum is great in Tortola; however, in St. Thomas I love Bones Rum and they give free samples....Smooth Rum for the Rough Seas.

Not only will they hold the bottle till you disembark, but if you are flying you will need to keep a piece of luggage to put it in, since it needs to go in checked luggage.

thanks for this tip. We're planning to do the Day at the Baths excursion but we may cancel just so we can go to Pussers :) -- maybe we'll do self-guided Baths trip so we're not stuck there all day and then come back and explore a bit in town

I second Bones. Good stuff. And you can not get it here in the states.

i got a bottle of bones a few years ago. I always like to shop for brands that I can't get in the states. Now that I can drive home from the port it makes it SO Much easier!

When we went to Pussers it was after returning to Tortola from The Baths (self-guided). It’s right on the way from the ferry dock. You walk right past it. It’s also only maybe 5-7 minutes walk outside the port area. You could make it!

sorry for the slight thread detour but are the Baths easy to do self-guided? We rarely do excursions b/c we seem to get 'done' before everyone else and end up taking cabs back to ports :)

I’ll message you so we can scooch our side convo off the thread. ;)

Once you have it, don't let anyone named Elizabeth, with a match, near it (see P of the C).

Ooohh...we are going to both ports in November. Choices, choices. How much are each per bottle? We are flying home. Would we be able to bring home one of each? Never brought alcohol on a plane before.

So a Bottle of Pussers at Tortola, and a bottle of Bones at St Vincent

Will be sure to keep ye Scallywags away from me booty..... any privateers will walk plank to Davy Jones' Locker

We flew home as well, and while I worried the whole way home, my rum survived. I wrapped in several layers of dirty clothes and put as middle of a suitcase as I could. Surround with more clothing. And big ziplock bags are good insurance as a first layer.

Were flying in/out too - flying in will be packing a couple of bottles of wine in 'Wine Skins' (find on Amazon) and will reuse for the Rum on return. Those a packing around clothing is usually fine.

We packed bubble wrap when we took our first cruise, and used that to get rum home safely from John Watlings in Nassau. Absolutely making note of these rums for our Eastern Caribbean cruise this coming April.
