Best Route to HDD

I have a ressie for HDD in about 2 weeks. My mother has a very bad knee but prefers not to use a wheelchair. The last time we went to HDD we took the boat, but the walk from the dock to Pioneer Hall was rough for her. Is there a better way for us to get to HDD so she won't have to walk as far? What about those golf carts around FW-- can we take one of those up to Pioneer Hall? TIA!

Where are you traveling from? We took DMIL (two artificial knees) on the WDW bus and she was fine.

We will be coming from the Contemporary, but we will have our car. We don't mind spending more time in transit if it's easier for her.

Just wondering how she is going to get around the parks if it is so difficult to walk. Most people walk at least 6 miles a day and most of the time it is much more. That doesn't even take into account standing in line.

You may want to urge her to consider an ECV from an outside vendor. That way she would be independent, but not in pain.

I think your best option if you don't want to rentva wheelchair is to drive to fort wildness then take the internal bus system. It will drop you closer then the boat but still a little walking.

The golf carts are rentals from off-site, generally for length of stay for people staying at the Fort.

As stated, the golf carts are either off-site or WDW owned rentals. If you are staying at CR, you have a few options:

1. Boat to FW.
2. Go to MK and take a bus to WL and then take a bus to FW. There is a bus that goes between the two resorts (only one I know of that is resort-to-resort). It drops off at FW at Settlement Depot (near Pioneer Hall).
3. Drive to FW. Park and take the Orange bus from the Outpost Depot to Settlement Depot. Purple and Yellow would work as well, but take you either through the Cabins or the Campgrounds meaning more stops.

For some reason, I am thinking that there was also a bus from MK to Settlement Depot at FW, but I cannot fully remember. I cannot find any of my FW papers from my last stay in the cabins in May 2010 so I cannot check. If so, that would have been another possibility instead of the bus from MK to WL.

If by chance you see someone in a golf cart that is not full, they may be willing to drive your mother from the golf cart parking near the marina to the golf cart parking near Pioneer Hall. They are not allowed to drive the golf cart up in front of Pioneer Hall.

their is no bus service from mk to fort wilderness. your best and shortest way if you don't take the boat is to take your car from your resort to fort and then transfer to the orange bus.

FYI: In case you need to know in the future. There is a bus between MK and WL. I think I got the two resort confused their is a bus from wilderness lodge to mk but not from fort wilderness you would have to transfer at wilderness lodge.

She doesn't do the parks. Normally she does not go with us to WDW but we are having a DFTW a week from Saturday. Our entire extended family will be there and we have many things scheduled that are outside of the parks.

no car parking at HDD. would have to take campground bus to HDD from front of campground. the walk is little shorter than from boat but can be very dark which could also be a problem for some who have trouble walking. not sure which show you are going to. there is nothing, even golf carts, that will get you near door other than wheelchair/ECV, both of which enter thru Trails End next door. there are steps up to the door.

I am so sorry to hear that she doesn't do the parks. There is so much to see and do even if you don't ride all the rides. I am sad that she is missing out on spending more time with her family and missing all the magic that is WDW!
